[history]
It turns out that the Democrats' turnout miracle that painted half the country blue in the 2000 election was, after all, a miracle. Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe had so convinced himself that the Florida 2000 tie was the result of something real that he poured millions of Hollywood's box-office receipts into the state to burn down the Bush brothers. Jeb's win was the biggest rout in the contested elections.

Excellent find. Thanks for posting this.

The day the music died...
How long did any serious Democrat think it would be possible, in the 21st century, to win elections by inciting a voting riot among blacks, unionists, teachers and Greens? The politics of frenzy has to tire you eventually, something it looks like we all learned in the days following the historic Wellstone memorial riot. That's the day, it appears, the music died for the Democrats.

The cultural references here aren't just for effect. Democrats have historically believed that their greatest possession is the culture--the Zeitgeist, what's goin' on. For example, in the party's long-running mythology, currently being bruited by people like Harry Belafonte, the liberating achievement of the civil rights movement in the 1960s invested them for all time with cultural supremacy, and because the mythology further holds that all Republicans fought to thwart the very idea of civil rights, the Republicans are forever shunned from approved political society.
Whats with this statement? Weren't DemocRATs the ones who fought hardest against the civil rights act...

This article by Daniel Henninger of the Wall Street Journal and an article posted earlier tonight by Mark Steyn really say it all, except for one point. I believe the republican and some independent/democrat voters raised their eyebrows in disbelief at the audacious move by Torricelli and the Democrat party in New Jersey to circumvent the impending Torricelli loss. While that was fresh in the minds of everyone, the even more blatant activities in Minnesota during the aftermath of Senator Wellstone's death crystalized the determination to finally put these usurpers back in the box.

Weren't DemocRATs the ones who fought hardest against the civil rights act... Many of them did, but with republican help, they passed it.
Since they were in charge, they took credit and now blame republicans as if it was all their idea and they passed it over our objections.
The real problem is that they believe the lie.

I believe you understand exactly right.

and because the mythology further holds that all Republicans fought to thwart the very idea of civil rights, the Republicans are forever shunned from approved political society. Ask LBJ; if not for the GOP, there would BE no Civil Rights Bill. The Democrats in the South, led by one Al Gore, Sr., fought it tooth and nail.

If you listen to their media footsoldiers doing postmortem "analysis", they still don't get it!

You re right! Those two events, back to back, showed the world how repugnant the Democrats are.
Bonior and McDermott holding a press conference in Iraq, and saying they trust Saddam more than President Bush, raised a few eyebrows, as well.

Good article.
But it was the title that caught my eye.

In order for the Democrats to shake off the influence of the Clinton wing of the party they're going to have to give up not merely their cushy funding sources in Hollywood, but the glamor that goes with their popularity among the Beautiful People. And that just ain't gonna happen.

You must leave now,
take what you need,
you think will last.
But whatever you wish to keep,
you better grab it fast.
Yonder stands your orphan with his gun,
Crying like a fire in the sun.
Look out the saints are comin' through
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.
The highway is for gamblers,
better use your sense.
Take what you have gathered from coincidence.
The empty-handed painter from your streets
Is drawing crazy patterns on your sheets.
This sky, too, is folding under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.
All your seasick sailors, they are rowing home.
All your reindeer armies, are all going home.
The lover who just walked out your door
Has taken all his blankets from the floor.
The carpet, too, is moving under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.
Leave your stepping stones behind, something calls for you.
Forget the dead you've left,
they will not follow you.
The vagabond who's rapping at your door
Is standing in the clothes that you once wore.
Strike another match, go start anew
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

"Whats with this statement? Weren't DemocRATs the ones who fought hardest against the civil rights act..." Yes. More Republicans than Democrats voted for the Civil Rights Acts, and thereby should get the credit for their passage. But the liberal mythology would have it otherwise.
But the liberal mythology is, for the most part, composed of lies. What's one more?

"Much of the Democrats' current donor base sits in Hollywood and upper Manhattan, laughing over dinner at how dumb George Bush is."
Someone ought to ask those geniuses just how dumb do you have to be to keep getting "whipped" by a dumb frat boy president.

Gentlemen, he said. "I don't need your organization. I've shined your shoes, I've moved your mountains and marked your cards, but Eden is burning. Either get ready for elimination or else your hearts must have the courage for the changing of the guards.

"Tonight was a good night for Democrats." In some way, this statement rings true, IMO. I take out of it "Good for those vitriolic venomous creepshow politicians" or "The only good Democrat is one dead in the water".

The Democrats are the Bob Dylan "Baby Blue" party and sulking like scowling kids, have taken home with them their reindeer armies and their marbles. A fitting epitaph to their fate in the 2002 election.
