TOM'S RIVER, New Jersey (CNN) -- A teen-ager was sentenced Friday to life in prison for carjacking and killing a teacher, who managed to record secretly the attack and her desperate pleas to be spared.

Michael LaSane, 17, will not be eligible for parole for 30 years. He pleaded January 27 to felony murder in the death of Kathleen Weinstein, 45.

In our state (we have ccw) if you are being threatened by someone who you believe intends you bodily harm and has the capacity (and proximity) to do so, you have no obligation to say anything in advance of firing. If you are a woman and hit the perp in the front of his body there isn't going to be a problem with you being prosecuted.
