Go here...

http://www.state.sd.us/sos/results/allraces.shtml

It shows that from Shannon County, Johnson is beating Thune 1005 to 97, that's right 97. That's with ONLY 4 of 10 precincts reporting. If this holds, this will be close.

If the GOP wins that seat, it'll be theirs forever, but with the margin as small as it is, I smell a democRAT.

Also, I would think it wouldn't be in the Democrats best interest to push too much of an investigation. They're already in hot water over the fraud on the reservations.

That might not stop them -- they have the media. Wasn't there a case a few years ago (New Jersey maybe?) that the dems howled for an investigation into pubbie vote fraud? If I recall, there may have been some, but the investigation started turning up massive dem vote fraud, and the whole thing left the front pages immediately.

OK, here's the deal:

Voters were given two ballots: one was the standard fill-in-the-ovals ballot which had all of the races, including the Senate, which was crossed out due to Wellstone's accident.

The second ballot was a supplemental ballot. This ballot only has the Senate race on it. Because of the time frame that we had to deal with, the optical scanners could not be programmed to accept both types of ballots, so ALL supplemental ballots need to be counted by hand.

Even though state law says that precints cannot release results to the state until all ballots are counted, some precints are sending the results of the optical scan ballots to the county clerk, who passes it on to the SecState's office, where the votes are then placed into the computer and come up on the website.

Because of this, many precints have completed counting the standard ballots and sent the results in, but are still counting the supplemental ballots. Only after they finish counting the supplementals, the results are sent in. I had an example of Washington County where they had 82/84 precints reporting, but only 24 had sent in their Senate results because others were still counting.

I hope I didn't confuse everybody beyond recognition, but that's the best I can figure it out...it's just a case of hand-counting the Senate ballots.

And now Jeffords faces a GOP governor and GOP House in Vermont... not sure about the VT senate. He'll be lucky if Leahy lets him shine his shoes!

The VT GOP took a drubbing in the legislature yesterday. They had held the house but will now be in the minority in both chambers. Remember that the GOP won the Governor and Lt Governor because of a plethora of minor candidates. Even these wins are not final since the legislature has to vote on any race where no one has reached 50%.

We need both of these so it'll be 52-47-1 and we don't have to worry about Jeffords becoming a Dem and Chafee switching to Dem and then there'll be no worries about Louisiana. We get these two and it's our Senate free and clear with no sucking up to Chafee and no holding our breath about Louisiana. Then Louisiana would simply be icing on the cake if Republicans in Louisiana unite to beat the Dem there which is possible since the 3 Republicans added up to more than what Landrieu got.

I find it hard to believe there are an addition 400,000 votes out there, which would be like more than 20% more votes than currently counted with almost 96% precincts.
