If the GOP picks off Dem seats, but lawsuits keep the new GOP senators from being seated, the GOP will still have a plurality in the Senate come January - - provided the Dems don't pick off even more GOP senate seats, which doesn't look likely at this point.

Beyond court cases, add Chaffee switching if it looks like the Republicans get that +1. We need at least two to undue his damage alone. Furthermore, the prospects of doing anything with a lame duck session will be nil if there is a court fight in Missouri and Holden refuses to certify Talent (although I think that the Sec. of State, Blunt [R] might be the real official who does the deal).

I want you to know that I'm going to call my mother-in-law and ask her to vote for Jay Wolfe.

Oh, I very much doubt that Bush is just going where there is a sure winner. I think he's spending every cent of his political capital everywhere. He's been in forty states at least once, and more than once in thirty states.

The President knows he needs a Republican Senate in order to be able to do anything for the next two years. And it won't matter to him if he has "popularity" if he can't get anything done.

This election is a referendum on President Bush, to give him a mandate, some power to do more than simply bomb terrorists. He wants the power to pass his domestic agenda, which includes making the tax cuts permanent, appointing some conservative judges, getting replacements for our conservative Justices of the Supreme Court who want to retire, banning partial birth abortion, having faith based organizations start taking over welfare needs, and reforming the INS among other things.

With a Democrat Senate he has to compromise where he would prefer not to.

New Hampshire and Arkansas conservatives who want true conservative and godly government, please give President Bush the power he needs to make the changes you want. And that can only happen if you vote for Republican candidates you are not thrilled about.

Lets deal with Smith later. The important thing is getting as many voters for the GOP as possible.

Yes, ultimately it is still an uphill fight for the GOP. Can be done, but gonna take a good fight.

God bless you and the other mountaineers. Because of the wisdom of yourselves, Tennessee, and Arkansas, three states the Crats came to count on during the Clinton/Gore years, Algore isn't the prez. Getting rid of that lefty millionaire would be a beautiful thing. My blessings, y'all.

Nothing is so important as that. Thanks.

Jay's supporters are a praying bunch too, and they really know how to put shoe leather behind their prayers as well.

Aww, RCP just stands for "Real Clear Politics."

I was hoping the link was to the "Revolutionary Communist Party." Those guys are such a fun bunch.

See, AC! President Bush was in West Virginia on October 31, and a poll there had the Democrat at 72%, but Bush is there encouraging the long shot, Jay Wolfe, and his tireless supporters.

Thanks for the pictures, EV!

Can somebody explain to Sen. Smith that this election is bigger than him? Sheesh, how pathetic.

You said it! I'm just appalled at how Sen. Smith and certain "Smith Republicans" in NH have been acting since the primary.

That poll was utterly bogus...put out by the Charleston Gazette...the most liberal rag in the State. It was a tiny sample, a huge margin of error, taken before a dozen major things took place, and was heavily weighted to Democrats and Kanawha County.

But your main point is well-taken...the President was here, and made it clear that he believed that we had a shot at the upset.
