Mondale and Coleman set to debate
BY TOM WEBB
Pioneer Press
The U.S. Senate campaigns of Democrat Walter Mondale and Republican Norm Coleman have agreed to hold a debate Monday morning, according to the Mondale campaign. The debate is set for 10 a.m. Monday morning at the Fitzgerald Theater in downtown St. Paul. Sponsored by Minnesota Public Radio and KARE-11 television, the debate will be broadcast live and the stations will allow any station to rebroadcast the debate Monday evening, according to the Mondale campaign.
Mondale staffers said CNN is considering carrying the debate live, underscoring the importance placed on the Minnesota Senate race by the rest of the country.
Only Coleman and Mondale will debate, excluding Independence Party candidate Jim Moore and Green Party candidate Ray Tricomo. Our proposal was for all four, Mondale said Saturday during a campaign stop on the Iron Range in northern Minnesota.
Ive been very flexible on it. I want the debate, Mondale said of negotiations between the two campaigns.

They finally got Mondale to do a debate, but I don't think that this can bode too well for Norm, considering the one host of the debate owns the venue.

The Mondale campaign must not like its internal polls. They planned to avoid this (the latest was they were holding out for a RADIO ONLY debate Monday night), but there has been a change of plan.

all coleman's voters will be at work while mondale's will just be getting up

Coleman did not want to do a debate on Monday since it would not allow time for a critique of Mondale's performance. It appears they compromised and went with Monday morning, which will allow for such a critique in the voters minds.

10 AM on a Monday. The day before Election Day. Sickening.

Mondead is behind and after the voters see he is a clueless dufus, he'll lose a few more points.

Polls aren't looking good for Mondale otherwise there would be no debate at all.

Ive been very flexible on it. I want the debate, Mondale said of negotiations between the two campaigns. typical left-wing whitewashing... what Mondale actually said was,
"I've been... what was the question? Oh, yeah, Ive... been... very... ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ... Huh? What? oh... ummm... flexible... I ummm... uh... want the debate..."

The Mondale campaign must not like its internal polls. Exactly. I've never felt better about the upcoming election than I do now.

Ive been very flexible on it. I want the debate, Mondale said of negotiations between the two campaigns. Liar. He could have had Meet the Press on Sunday with a Slave Party moderator and he turned it down. They don't want to give the pubbies time to run down and expose his lies before the election.

all coleman's voters will be at work while mondale's will just be getting up Naw ...not before noon...
To: bigaln2
So who is excluding the Green and Independent Party candidates? It's obvious the source for the article is the Mondale campaign and they claim they wanted all four to debate. I'll see if I can find a Coleman press release on this.

10AM?? I guess it's more likely his Depends are dry at that hour.

The one negative about the time of course is that not many will be watching. BUT.....it will give time for the news media to play excerpts of Mondale attempting to talk during the noon, 5 and 6 p.m. news. After, the debate will be rebroadcast in the evening. That is better than just having the debate in the evening.
To: InvisibleChurch
all coleman's voters will be at work while mondale's will just be getting up Dont worry about it. Few people but partisans watch the debates in their entirety. Most people get snippets of the debate off the evening news or the morning paper and thats that. So you got to have zingers or get the opponent flustered so as to make noteworthy mistake or few will see it.

Here's what Mondull will say tomorrow night: "Let's tell the truth. Mr. Mondale will raise taxes, and so will I. He won't tell you. I just did. "
