Carson storms out of scheduled debate By Mary Beth Schneider

U.S. Rep. Julia Carson stunned a Northwestside audience today when she stormed out of a debate after she accused her Republican challenger of running the most "repulsive" campaign she had ever faced.
Carson, a Democrat seeking her fourth term representing Indianapolis in Congress, was to take part in the Meridian Hills Kiwanis Club debate with Republican Brose McVey and Libertarian Andy Horning.
Instead, she said she wouldn't stay on the same stage with McVey and left the meeting room at the Holiday Inn Select North.
"If I seem rather upset, you are looking at somebody who is extremely hurt by this campaign," Carson said. "I don't think I have ever in my life seen the political decay, the lowest common denominator, that has been applied by my Republican opponent in this particular race. I don't feel comfortable being in the same room with him."
Carson claimed there is a "whispering campaign" that she is anti-Semitic -- a charge McVey said he knew absolutely nothing about. She also suggested racism was behind the unflattering use of her photos.
The Democrat also cited ads by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) that attack her for paying property taxes late. She cited the terminal illness of her mother as a reason for at least some of the delinquent payments.
Records in the Marion County treasurer's office show Carson has repeatedly been late paying property taxes, but is currently up to date.
McVey defended the tone of his campaign as focusing on issues.
He said media reports have shown the accuracy of the NRCC ad. He took responsibility for the ads done on his behalf, he said, but added that while he wouldn't have chosen to bring the topic of Carson's taxes into the campaign, he had no control over what other Republicans say.

If I woke up with THAT snuggled next to me, I'd chew my arm off at the shoulder and haul ass.
Your taste in women makes me question your sanity.
Yes, but influential liberal blacks are exempt from minor things like paying taxes, and to suggest to the contrary is racist.
Really. I finally figured out liberal logic. If you are a responsible black person who is an honest, upstanding citizen, you are a "sellout", "not black enough" or an "Uncle Tom." If the black person is clearly crooked or unethical, and you take notice of that fact, you are a "racist".
She is Butt-ugly
Yeah, and we ain't talking about a nice butt either. That's a face that makes most butts look good. Faces like that are reponsible for the majority of male sexual disfunction.
Jilia is in uncharted waters this year. Redistricting, even though done by Den-O-Rats in the statehous, gave her more conservative and well, generally more informed voters. I know, I got thrown into her district. And I can't wait to vote against that waste of space on Tuesday.

Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, the 2000 Democratic vice presidential nominee, came to Indianapolis on Thursday to campaign and raise cash for Rep. Julia Carson, D-Ind.
Just the thought of that pairing had Carson's Republican challenger, Brose McVey, shaking his head. "Julia Carson and Joe Lieberman agree on almost nothing," McVey said. The liberal Carson voted against the resolution authorizing President Bush to attack Iraq. Lieberman voted for it.
It's too obvious a contrast to hide, and Lieberman and Carson acknowledged their differences from the moment they began a news conference after a $250-per-person fund-raising luncheon and a $1,000-per-person reception.
"We don't always vote alike," Carson said, "but we think alike in terms of what's best for America." Lieberman agreed, saying, "Occasionally we do disagree on something, but we share the basic gratitude . . . that we were blessed and fortunate to be born Americans." The differences they and other lawmakers have over Iraq are ones of style, not substance, he suggested.
Lieberman said he knows Carson is "involved in a battle here," and with only a six-vote margin separating majority Republicans and minority Democrats in the House, the stakes are high.
Polls have shown Carson and McVey are in a statistical dead heat to represent the 7th Congressional District, which encompasses most of Marion County.
And both she and McVey are getting help from their national parties. Carson has another fund-raiser planned with Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., a leader of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
McVey has gotten campaign help from House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., and has visits scheduled by two Cabinet members, Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton and Secretary of Education Rod Paige. McVey is also hoping for a visit from someone with more clout -- Vice President Dick Cheney, if not President Bush.
But McVey was focusing on ideas Thursday. He held a news conference outlining his agenda, promising that if elected, he would focus on economic growth, education, health care for seniors and national security.
He also said he'd push for refundable tax credits that families could use to cover educational costs, from computers to tuition, and for a long-term care insurance program.
Campaign finance reports filed this week showed that as of Sept. 30, Carson and McVey had raised similar sums this year -- McVey has raised about $691,000; Carson, $674,000 -- but that she had far more left to spend. McVey's cash on hand was only about $86,000, while Carson had $591,000. she's saving up for a rainy day!
Libertarian Andy Horning did not need to file a report, as he had raised less than $5,000.
I think it's more a poorly phrased way of saying that the evil with-in each democrat eventually seeps to the surface leaving them as repulsive physically as they are philosophically, spiritually and mentally.
Democrats just tend to be really, really ugly. Even the 'good looking ones' tend to be ugly due to permanent scowls or some such.
