What's going on with Free Republic? Am I the only one who's having trouble accessing the site? I can't even post.

Been wondering that myself. I can get nearly all my normal sites quickly (I surf hundreds of places a day looking for news). I have DSL here at home and I also tried from the data center at work and it was running slow this AM. Hopefully we can find out something. I checked out the internet traffic site and overall things are looking good across the US.

Did you try twisting the thing-a-ma-bob with the whatchamacallit? That and some super glue usually fixes all my problems.
ps- if you need any technical help let me know and will try to help. Where I used to work we actually had a wand we waved over the computers and mumbled something about magic voodoo midgets and they always worked after that.

Two things about self search that may be slowing things up.
1. Each time it is used one might download 200K-300K of material...Takes way longer to load the selfsearch page than it does a page of the 100 most recent articles. There should be a way to limit it to fewer responses.
2. When a user posts a response it automatically triggers the "New post" message at the top of the screen so you don't know if there is a new post to yourself or not until you do a self search.(usually only to find out it is your own post that triggered the alert). A users own post should not trigger that.
Just some ideas on how to cut some bandwidth.
