Vote... and be D@mned! (vanity, but dead serious)
self | 10-30-02 | John Rollinson

Posted on 10/30/2002 12:29:05 PM PST by backhoe

When I was a little boy, I recall a whole series of books sitting on my Dad's shelves:

Boat... and be D@mned!
Golf... and be D@mned!
Fish... and be D@mned!

...and I even recall one of the Ten Commandments of Boating:

"Spit ye not, even windward
for such shall return to plague thee..."

These books were a tongue-in-cheek effort to lampoon hobbies of the day, and as a kid I found them quite humorous... but there's nothing funny about the upcoming elections. The course our country takes at the beginning of the new century is going to be set by this event, and we all need to participate.

But whether it's the vote-fraud stories breaking out, the attempt to silence the Right, the deification of Senator Wellstone... whatever "issue" you choose to focus on- it should be apparent the Left is trying to highjack these elections.

We all need to get busy, get energized, get activated, and get out and vote. Voting is the bottom line of a particapatory, representative government. Try to convince your spouse, friends, relatives and co-workers that this is a crucial election, and that they need to go out and vote, and get others to go, too.

There's another thing, too-- data I have seen indicates that voter turnout will be near historical lows...
Don't be fooled by the lamenting of the Jackal Pack Press about how awful this is- they only chatter to hear themselves talk, anyway-- what it really means in practical terms is that everyone who bothers to vote has their vote leveraged-- it counts for more!
If take only one thing away from this essay, remember that. Your vote will mean more.

And just for further inspiration, I'll leave you with some links:

I'd describe their politics as "skeptical"- perhaps leaning libertarian

I agree 100% with you. These young people are ALL Libertarians at heart...but we have discussed at length the profitability of voting for candidates that cannot win...yet.

I imagine the face of American politics will change drastically over the next generation's lifespan. The Democrats are losing the interest and trust of this new generation, as more voting fraud and unfair tactics are exposed. Also, the Clintons are seen for what they truly are - power hungry, amoral individuals who will use anyone or anything in their quest for supremacy. It may very well be that Republicans and Libertarians will be the parties of the future.

I have phone calls listed out for Tuesday morning to remind lazy conservatives to get out an vote. I will follow up that afternoon and early evening with phone calls and emails. I know the ones who look for any excuse not vote. Yesterday I told two whiners of the third party persuasion who said that they wouldn't vote, that I would hold them responsible for aiding and abetting the Criminal Gray Davis to have 4 more years of criminal activity for their real lack of morality by not voting for Simon. My son is flying down for my birthday, he has voted by absentee ballot, and I will vote on my way to the airport to pick him up. My DIL a new conservative since 9/11 will make phone calls all day to parents of children telling them not to vote for the pro Gay, pro abortion and morality scumbag Davis. Like us, her husband, my son will roll out to the curb, the trash toters with "DUMP DAVIS sticker on the street Monday and leave them on the street until the polls close. My Bronco with Dump Davis stickers will be driven to the Sacramento Airport and back. Then it will be driven around my town when we get back. I will be 64 tomorrow, and I have told friends/relatives in Kali the only present I want is for them to vote for Simon. My relatives in other areas have been asked to vote out the Rats in congress and to maintain Republicans.

I got a nice thrill from one of my younger grandaughters (age 6 , first grade) Sat.

We were driving down PCH and their was an Antiwar demo at the Huntington Beach Pier. One of the demostraters had a good size replica of the flag on a 4x5 foot poster board with writing scribbled over the flag, which she clearly didn't care for. Then she broke out with the Pledge of Allegiance including "in God we Trust".

It gave me shivers and pride!

She attends public school and church, thee is hope in our young ones!

We were on vacation when 9/11 happened last year.

By the time we got home from Oregon, there was not an American Flag to be found. We went to a craft fair and bought a couple of Flag Craft type things to put in our windows.

Our grand daughter saw a lot of flags around her neighborhood and her mother was sent a flag from the east coast by one of her family members. That flag has flown everyday since our DIL got the flag. Our grand daughter will even salute the flag sometimes. Her Papa taught her how to do that.

She kept asking where our flag was on visits. Finally I was able this spring to buy and an American made American Flag and mount the bracket to fly it everyday. They came up for a weekend. Later that evening I had taken our flag inside for the night. She got up early the next morning and looked out our kitchen window. She was upset that someone might have taken our flag.

So she and I got our flag and put it up.

When we got inside, she said "Shame on you Papa!"

We asked her what she meant, and she said, "Papa didn't put his flag out this morning!"

So hopefully our grand children and children will do a better job with the flag than some of us have. Her twenty month old brother is starting to pay attention to their flag and others in their neighborhood!

I'm genuinely pleased with my nieces, and other young people like them... they'll listen to me- then do their own research, usually on the 'net. The get their own facts and evidence, and are dubious at accepting anything at face value. Thank the Good Lord, I couldn't ask for more.

I greatly appreciate your street-level activism. I have long noted that those who bellyache the loudest in between elections seem to be the ones who can't be bothered to vote...

I just got back, and the Old Sergeant is OK, for one who is being ground down by aging and the dozen or so chronic illnesses that go along with it. She still smokes ( a little ) and still hates hill n' bill with a vengance...

You'll like Free Dominion- I was one of the early members, as a way of showing support for our Conservative Canadian cousins, and while I usually don't lurk there ( except whe we are down ) it's a nice site, and fairly similar to this site in using html.

Ernest, when I drove that old wrecker down here for 9 years, I got to meet the lowest of the low, and the highest of the high- wrecks and breakdowns cut across all lines... and you know what?

Most Americans a good, decent people. Even some who are rough as a cob sometimes show amazing kindness and helpfullness.

God bless your grand-daughters- America is going to be OK.

Just get ten neighbors to SHOW UP AND VOTE!!!

I did that, but they turned out to be Democrats. Bummer, and some of them were Republicans too. Bummer again. Oh well, I guess I'll just go and vote myself.

I'm so impressed with the actions of so many 20 to 30 something young people since 9/11. They saw the reality of allowing their world to be controlled by the left maggots who have sold out to the IslamoFascists who would kill all of us.

Re the bitchers and moaners, I believe that we have a large 5th column of whiners, bitchers and moaners who work 24/7 to discourage us from voting and for our political stances on Free Republic and throughout America while claiming to be loyal and super patriots.
