=====

GlocktoberFest

Our much anticipated event, GlocktoberFest, went off with only the most minor of hitches. It was wet and drizzly at times, but we didn't get the heavy rain that was predicted. We had 11 HAT Chapter FReepers in attendance, 2 out of town FReepers as well as 2 guests. Lodwick gets the award for the longest trek [Austin] and Bigun followed with a close second [Huntsville]. The HAT folks that were there are Flyer, RikaStrom, Humblegunner, BobbyD, Eaker, Dix, COB1, EastForker and Missus Eastie, PetroniDE and Retired AF Warrior.

The weapons present included a .300 Winchester, 2 SKS's, 3 Glock .40's, a Sig Sauer .40, a S&W 9mm, 22 magnum Winchester lever action, .357 Ruger, H&K SLB-1, several .22 target pistols, a Sig 228, a CZ 75b and others. The individual gun owners are encouraged to talk about their guns for clarity.

I can't even guess at the number of rounds that were fired. Let's just say A LOT! It was a priceless opportunity to fire a wide variety of weapons at a single outing.

Post-range we retired to the home of our gracious hostess, RikaStrom. The intermittent rain moved our plans from her backyard into the garage. We mixed casual conversation, political talk and great food. The menu include brisket, Elgin sausage, shrimp, potato salad, chips, dips, sodas and beer. A big Texas thanks to all that participated and volunteered with food and supplies to help make this a success.

After our guests and out of town FReepers left we also conducted Chapter business, as this event was in lieu of our regular monthly meeting.

It has been suggested that we not wait another year and instead schedule an event in the spring. In the spirit of COB1 and Eaker we may call it. . . Springfield Break!

We'll have to see if anyone got a shot of me and that monstrosity that COB brought.

I did, and lots of others! Problem is I have been completely offline
since then, because someone handed me a 956 page book! (Yes, there is one way to keep me off the computer...)

"Swan Song" by Robert McCammon... read it before years ago but since then
it either got looted or failed to survive a move! I didn't
stir off the couch once yesterday!

Rika, when you shoot a clip of ten in five seconds and destroy the whole darn Al-Clayda Army, there's not enough time to get a picture!!

LOL, I was telling my family about that gun and the Al-Clayda Army. Now they want proof. Personally, I think they were just jealous! :-)

Aren't Sunday's wonderful for just kicking back and reading? ;-)

I curious as to how much ammo each of you went through with each weapon?

We went through quite a bit with Cob's .223: I shot 2 ten round clips and I think Rika did also. Probably around a hundred cartridges between my .22 and .380 pistols were fired. I'd forgotten what a satisfying feeling blowing holes in paper and clay could be.

I went through four boxes with my Glock 27, and I think Flyer had some .40caliber rounds too. Humblegunner must have gone through fifteen boxes or so with his long gun. I don’t know about the other guns. All I can say is all of us were shooting from about 10:00 until 1:00 or so.

So my wife and I drive in from Austin to this Glocktoberfest around 11:40 and had no clue to where anyone was. No sign of Bar-B-Q (other than the commerical site) either. :(

Well, we managed to cook off a box of .50 and several boxes of .45 before wandering off to the Nebraska @ TAMU fiasco, followed by the Houston air show on Sunday that wasn't.

Three disappointments!

Dang Moose - that's sad. Did you get a copy of the map to the American Shooting Center or what? It was posted in the Glocktoberfest splash.

Maybe we can hook up for the Springfield Break - if we don't decide to go down there sooner. ;-)

A superior type time was had by all.

Thanks HG - as I've said before, I'd forgotten how much fun shooting provided. (I hope to get down there before the Springfield Break.)

Maybe Moose and I can get something going on up here in the People's Republic of Austin for you guys to attend.
