The firearm is often referred to as a civilian version of the military's M-16. The federal warrant issued against John Allen Muhammad identified the specific model as an A-35, XM15 E2S.

The gas-operated weapon is about 343/4 inches long, and it weighs 7.74 pounds without the standard 10-round magazine that Bushmaster supplies with each model.

>>The ''shorty'' was manufactured to accommodate a telescopic site

I was just at a telescopic site; there were a bunch of telescopes in the observatories at the top of Mt. Hilleakala, the dormant volcano that rises to over 10,000 feet and comprises the eastern part of the Island of Maui.

A telescopic sight, OTOH, is another thing entirely. I have a couple of those in the safe, attached to favored rifles.

Don't these guys use editors any more? Or can any journalism graduate just post stuff and see it printed in a newspaper?

Wow, thanks to the media, we now know more about the gun than we do about Muhammed. Tells you something about the media, no?

These threads being posted identifying the manufactured specifications of the weapon used need to be pulled as they serve no purpose but to draw attention away from the actual crime committed by the Islamic Terrorist Shooter. Any rifle could have been used. It seems to me the numerous posts are red herrings that only draw attention and tends to promote the anti-gun argument that we need to get rid of guns.

Is this really news?

News is anything that keeps the ads from colliding; so yes, it's news.

Ayah.

A Mainer - Someone who comes to Maine for the summer and thinks it is so beautiful they will stay in Maine all year.

Maniac - The person who stays a second winter.

Please be more careful about what you suggest. All too often, what you offer will come shortly to pass.

And here is a Ruger mini 14, slightly modified by Clark Custom

This gun is no different in operation than the Bushmaster AR; it fires the .223, is 'gas operated', has a detachable ten (or more) round magazine and a 16-20 inch barrel. The difference is, the AR is banned, and the Ruger is as legal as sea salt. The damn politicians screwed the American citizens by demonizing the black rifle just because of how it looks. So why do we continue focus on the tools used by this bastard? So the enemies of freedom can push their agenda ahead a little bit more.

I find it horribly coincidental that the weapon found was a Bushmaster and Harry Belafonte came out with the Bush/master story during this.

I'd have to say Bush was the target after looking at the whole picture, the original plan got dumped and the guys continued on their own.

Had one of them "movin" 350's. It was awesome but depressing.

It took me a while to realize that guys approached me because of my car...

Well, how the heck was I to know...Geez, I thought I looked pretty good. Obviously, the car was "hotter"

Lesson learned: "volunteer" mechanics are readily available if you have a 350!!
