Suspect left danger signs in Bellingham (FBI had Terror Tip on Sniper Muhammad, October, 2001!)

The people at Stuart's Coffee House remember John Allen Muhammad as a quiet chess player who never wanted to be apart from his big, stuffed, heavy U.S. Army duffel bag.

At this point, nobody can prove that the bag Muhammad was lugging around contained the Bushmaster AR-15 rifle that police found in his car when he and 17-year-old John Lee Malvo were arrested at a Maryland rest stop early Thursday. By the end of the day, ballistics tests had tied that weapon to the bloody East Coast sniping spree that left 10 people dead.

Flashing money, taking trips by airplane while supposedly poor and living in a homeless shelter. Hmmm.
The clues were all there. I wonder how many others like him are running loose and unknown in this country.

On the news last night, it was mentioned he lived in a Caribbean country (can't recall which one) for a year in the late 90's. If he purchased property during his time there, that would explain his need to revisit to settle a real estate deal.

That was Antigua. Some stories have him meeting Malvo on that island when the boy was 13 years old.

Didn't the border patrol stop some guy coming from Canada to bomb LA inter. airport just before Y2K?

Yep, and he was Algerian.

After brief deliberations, a federal jury Friday found an Algerian man guilty of plotting terrorist attacks against millennium celebrations in the United States.

Ahmed Ressam had pleaded not guilty to nine counts. He faces up to 130 years in prison....

Authorities say the bomb plot may have included targets in the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas as well, and Ressam's capture led to the arrests of two alleged co-conspirators in Montreal and Brooklyn, NY....

The prosecution said it did not intend to prove specific sites were targeted, but noted evidence suggesting West Coast landmarks as well as three airports in California, including Los Angeles, had been considered.

The weakest portion of the federal case in Los Angeles was prosecutors' efforts to prove a globl conspiracy in which Ressam was supposedly a key player.

They were prevented from ever mentioning the name of Osama bin Laden or making any references to terrorist training camps in Afghanistan.

He formerly ran a branch of Al-Taqwa in the Caribbean, heads a financial firm linked to Saar, and directs Dar al-Hijra, a mosque in Falls Church, Va., notable for hardline Wahhabi preaching.

Is that the mosque within walking distance of the Home Depot at Seven Corners (where Linda Franklin was murdered)?

What is that girl's name that was on Hannity, the one who uncovered the INS involvement with Malvo?

I think you mean Michelle Malkin. She writes for Jewish World Review. (jewishworldreview.com).

Yes, that is the person I was think of. Her column is also picked up by the Bellingham Herald, occasionally.

When are they going to start taking our tips seriously?

I hate to say it, but I have the feeling that if the tips had involved a 'white male with a military looking haircut' the FBI would have been all over it ...

And for the most part all it is, is talk by lifes losers.

Adolf Hitler was once that kind of street person, selling his paintings on the street and living in flophouses in Vienna and Munich. He too was noted for talking big.

Re: Guns & Ammo. Had to happen, I suppose. I'd love to scream "planted info", but the fact is that people who want to shoot buy shooting magazines

I didn't know that Ressam was Algerian. That makes this guy who stayed with my friend even more interesting.

No doubt it was an innocent Islamic charity giving Mohammed all that cash, just to help out.

Maybe he was just a thief.

Ain't hindsight wonderful.

Actually I was pointing out the foresight of several credible people and even the Bellingham (sp?) police who contacted the fibbies on their own initiative - meaing at least 3 separate contacts re Mohammed and NOTHING was done. Do you feel safer? I don't.

And wasn't a woman involved in that? Said she had dropped him off for surveying or something?

I think that was how the search the next day (Oct. 8th) was said to be resolved. There were confused reports about whether that was in Clinton, MD or Fort Washington. Suspicous man was said to have been seen in the woods, and a police search (or two police searches?) resulted.

Hmmm, a woman. Muhammad's second ex-wife lives in Clinton and is said to own a white truck.

He used to own some kind of auto shop and to be at least co-owner of a karate school, both in Tacoma in the 90's. But those could easily have just been ways to launder money.
