Overnite, two men arrested while sleeping in their car at a reststop in MD. John Mohammed aka John Williams and his stepson Lee Malvo. Mohammad is thought to be the likely shooter.

I will say Football, as a former prosecutor and LE member, that sort of thing always happens. There are always those incidental contacts with the perps that just miss notice. The same thing happened in the Son of Sam serial spree. Berkowitz had gotten a parking ticket. Luckly someone put 2 & 2 together. In the OKC bombing, if you will remember, McVeigh was stopped on a moving traffic violation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. He was in jail for the ticket, about to be released when another prisoner noticed that he resembled the composite drawing that was on TV.

So, this isn't what I would call dropping the ball. If anything, the LEAs putting out the information about the white van, when it wasn't that strong of a lead (and now we know was wrong) had everyone looking up the wrong tree. And once that bell has rung, then the public sees white vans with ladder racks everywhere. And when a shooting goes down, people were not looking for a suspect vehicle, they are looking for a white van.

Just one of those things.

Dumber and Dumbest was probably was trying to lay low for awhile, kill some time and sneek in on foot and 1 too many 40 ounces and fell off to sleep. Or perhaps one was suppose to stay awake while the other caught a little nap.

For some reason Howlin, I just thing that better judgement will keep me from trying that response. Although I would love to.

There may well be a dominican connection. Back on 9/11 of this year they detained a Pakistani medical student who was in the Dominican Republic illegally. He tried to board a flight from the Dominical Republic to France and had a knife in his carryon luggage. Of course, that was just another one of those "nothing to see here move along" cases

I agree and since I don't know how much longer this daily thread will continue, thanks to everyone for helping me stay connected to this story. Even when I could only steal a minute or two to check on things, this thread always kept me up to date. And the people who have been regulars here over the last couple of weeks have been a particularly great bunch of people.
