A one line mention in Monday's Washington Post has led to an inquiry from C-SPAN about their covering this Saturday's Patriots Rally for America at the Washington Monument, at the corner of 17th Street and Constitution Avenue, NW, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
They plan on covering the so-called anti-war rally being held the same day in D.C. and wish to cover our rally as balance.
Also, C-SPAN will be having a roundtable discussion on the Iraq situation and asked us to suggest some college student leaders to participate in a Washington Journal segment for Saturday.
I'll be calling C-SPAN Thursday with our schedule for the rally and I suppose they'll decide then whether they'll cover it. They definitely seem interested, though.
Our speaker line-up is taking shape, we should be ready to announce at least a partial one tomorrow night. Just like last April's Patriots Rally, it's coming together the week of the event.
As for financing, we're about halfway to meeting the budget of $4,000 for the stage, sound, porta-pottys and incidentals. Members of the D.C. Chapter are financing the Patriots Rally, but we could use some help.
If you would like to help, please click this link.
If you would like to publicize the Patriots Rally, you can download this flyer created by rabidralph which features Registered's rally logo and distribute copies in your area.
The D.C. Chapter was planning for the Patriots Rally to be a local pro-America, support our troops and anti-Saddam Hussein gathering to counter the national so-called anti-war rally being held by the usual collection of America-hating communists, leftists and anarchists.
We've made contacts with local College Republican groups at some of the local campuses and they are helping to get the word out.
We're not going to come anywhere near the numbers of the leftists, but we'll have a decent crowd. We'd love to have you come out and stand up for America with us.
Please bring American and Gadsden flags, signs supporting America and our troops and as many friends and family members as you can.
The weather forecast is for mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the 50s to low 60s.
As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for demonstrating will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no racism, no profanity, no threats, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.
When: Saturday, October 26, 2002 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., rain or shine.
Where: The Washington Monument at the corner of 17th Street and Constitution Avenue, NW.

Thanks for the info. I'll be hitting the road tomorrow, so I'll have limited comms until Saturday.
How is the leftist protest looking from an attendance standpoint?
To: Fred Mertz
Very very hard to predict. Predictions are always wrong on these things -- even news estimates. But at least fairly large since there are buses coming from other cities.
Look forward to meeting you!
To: Fred Mertz
P.S. Rather than Federal Triangle, you could, if you wished, just get off at Smithsonian. From there, you can see the Monument -- just walk toward it (west) and over the gentle hill it stands on (a little to the southwest) and you'll see us. Such a route would ensure you avoid the leftists.

Hi FTH, Do you remember where we met, do you remember who was the maddest and LOUDEST one there? Do you doubt I support our troops? I don't have to show you I'm bonified but I wanted you to remember where we met when I tell you this, but first I want you to try and JUST listen, don't think about your response until you here me out:
I will not be there on Saturday. At this time I have no reason to support an invasion of Iraq or its bombing from afar, further I do not believe sending our troops to foreign lands to kill people and blow things up or maybe be killed just because we can is a conservative position. That is not how I support our troops.
I did not believe we were justified when we flew as al Qaeda,s air force against Serbia and Kosovo under Clinton and I see no justification for Bush's current drive to attack Iraq. Please do not lamely try to tie 9/11 to Iraq.
The fact that I have come to the same conclusion as ANSWER and the other socialists and commies is perplexing to say the least. I think I can explain that best thus, just as 10+2=12 and 6+6=12 we have taken different paths to reach the same point. I try to keep an open mind and evaluate each situation on its own merits. I am surprised that the likes of
Joe Sobran "Will the easy defeat of Iraq destroy terrorism? The idea is absurd. It will provoke even more terrorism, and Americans around the world including us in America itself will be in greater danger than before. Everyone knows it. The Bush people dont even deny it."
Ron Paul "It is far better to focus our efforts on immigration reform and ridding our country of suspected terrorists than to restrict the constitutional liberties of our own citizens. The fight against terrorism should be fought largely at our borders. Once potential terrorists are in the country, the task of finding and arresting them becomes much harder, and the calls for intrusive government monitoring of all of us become louder. If we do not want to move in the direction of a police state at home, we must prevent terrorists from entering the country in the first place.
Finally, meaningful immigration reform can only take place when we end the welfare state. No one has a right to immigrate to America and receive benefits paid for by taxpayers. When we eliminate welfare incentives, we insure that only those who truly seek America's freedoms and opportunities will want to come here."
George Tenet, Norman Swartzkof, Wesley Clark etc. etc. etc.
The FBI? Gosh they did a good job today. Really!
Surprise! I spent my youth surrounded by FBI and SS agents and thier familys, couldn't read enough books about them. It wasn't until my adultery #;O) that I learned of the corrupt political nature of the FBI and its founder the hero turned pervert extortionist. and it has only gotten worse as no one there is held accountable for thier actions.
Gotta take care of my boy for a while, see ya.

That's all OK. It looks like your opposition to the war is principled and sound. I don't know if you ever get to hear Christopher Hitchens on TV about Iraq: I kinda agree with his take.
But it's also clear that you know that most of the anti-war people out there Saturday will be anti-American. One of the good things about our Patriots rally is that it will be a countervoice to the socialist signs and what not. So I bet, although you won't be there, you won't disagree with every sign that we're holding.
Enjoy your weekend!
