I'm late for work and have to run but did you see further up the road another ambulance long after the bus driver was off to the hospital. There is a white SUV sideways with detectives and firemen around it. They were taking a gurney up to it, but in no hurry. Looks like something else happened here besides the bus driver.

I can see several school buses in the aerial shots. They ought to transport them safely out of the area. Not sure where to take them, but they need to concentrate on protecting the kids. I really think this guy will hit again today.

One woman on bus when driver was shot. My original post read "a bus" rather than "the bus." That was my correction. It was the driver who was shot. The woman is being counselled by police according to eyewitness report.

Thanks for those links. They report: Montgomery County Schools - All schools will open on time. Bureaucratic idiocy! Driver calling in to WMAL now complaining about seeing children waiting for buses on the street.

Eyewitness reported saw bus driver, not moving, taken away in ambulance.

Reports say he is still alive and was flown to hospital... Don't know if Holy Cross takes gun shots, but it is close.

Don't know about today, but DC area schools have not been closed during this. Outside activities have been cancelled, but not school.

Fairfax schools definitely not cancelled, I just dropped mine off.

I agree, and he started this after the routes started, so it is probably too late to call them back. Do school buses in this area have radios? Ours do, but we live in a suburban/rural area with snowstorms, and the radios are primarily for weather troubles.

Folks if you have MSNBC turn it on, the coverage is better. They were just talking about the phone call the sniper made (the jumbled message police cannot understand). It was a 30 second call and it was played through the phone from off a tape recorder.

Release of prisoners from Gitmo not related. This has been in the works for weeks.

Diplomats from all nations that have prisoners have been visiting and interviewing prisoners. Pakistan asked for these five back, for whatever reason -- they are low level munchkins, not big league Al Qaeda.

High school is about to start in Montgomery County, but the lower grades start later in the morning. There would certainly be time to cancel bringing the younger kids in.
