My kids would get the flu real quick. They can fail math but I'm not going to fail them.
You've got that right.

I understand as former LEO you think too much control has been given to the sniper. And you may very well be right. Would it make a difference if the sniper has told LEO in his 3-page letter that he will start targeting children specifically if Moose DOESN'T read the post script on national television?

I resent people making fun of the way he talks.I'm guilty of this. I don't mean anything personal by it. It's just a way to lighten things up a bit in this horrific story. I have respect for Chief Moose. In fact I kind of like him. I usually don't make fun of people I don't like.
Certainly no one would want to have the burden that the Chief has. People are quick to criticize from the comfort of their homes and I have certainly done my share of this as well.
Thank you for reminding me that making fun of some one is not cool.

What if this letter and post script is a trigger to other cells?
How easy to have your enemy contact your operatives through the media.
No chatter for the security agencies to pick up.

How in the world can they think they can get the money and run? They have to be some kind of terrorists (any kind) or mercenaries working for them because you'd need an excellent network to pull it off.
My question: WHAT DOES SADDAM KNOW AND WHEN DID HE KNOW IT.

"Ya see alot of that going on around here since the boy in Bowie got shot.
Principal tried to suggest parents stay in their cars and she got a roomfull of
moms giving her the ole "You're out of your frickin mind" stare. "
The principal would be getting alot more than stares from me. I'm only 5', 100 lbs. but my husband sometimes says I scare him:)

Chris Core on WMAL: AP is reporting that the sniper is demanding several million dollars to stop his killing
--"Money is the root of all evil"

If so, maybe they should put Rummy in charge. That would make me feel better.

I don't think it would make that much difference. That message could be conveyed in some other way. A more generic statement. Through the schools themselves. Through statements regarding vigilance and safety for everyone. Just don't read the guys statement verbatim. Yes, the guy may then resort to contacting the media directly. So be it. But he has the LEAs doing what he says if that is the case. Not good.
To: yukong
The shooter did want it read. And if more shootings occur anywhere else in the country today or tommorow; the LEOs involved should be fired--if not put in jail!

If they acknowledge that this is terrorism, the economy could likely collapse, as the very important holiday shopping season is approaching. No shopping...no travelling...no going out to eat...Right back into recession...or worse.
Additionally, the election is 2 weeks away. Imagine very few people going to the polls. Imagine the chaos that would cause inside our government (remember Florida 2000). If that's what they're thinking, that's silly. There would be "OMG" for a few hours probably, but life ALWAYS goes on, even in the midst of a war.
(In fact, I gotta get a quick shower soon and go run some errands :)

I just freepmailed you on the italics question.

Why can't we take of things going on here AND take care of Saddam, too?
If their (shooter) reasoning is because of the planned attack on Iraq, and they are doing this now, just wonder what they plan when the Iraq attack actually takes place? Is this when all cells go into motion?
To: Neets
I believe the shooter is a psycho. He's playing a game and starting to get bored.
Once he's killed 6 or seven people, where is the joy? So in his little psychotic (above average IQ) brain.."what can I do to terrorize these fools (LE & us) even more." He checks out prior serial killers and sees that they have really cool signatures and gimmicks..Letters to the Editor, spiffy costumes (Zodiac), things that make them unique.
He is simply following their leads...I expect we will have letters to newspapers or reporters soon.

We keep saying that the terrorist go for volume deals. This particular sniper has occupied the police and security forces of at least 4 counties.
This is terrorism on the cheap.
