someone else is trying to make some moneyJeff, I have seen a lot of freepers say this, but I can't see how anyone could make money on the snipings. How?

If they are trying to extort the release of some prisoners, is there some reason why they wouldn't be phoning the police?

And anybody who is working with the sniper has an easy way to collect half a million dollars: turn him in, and collect the reward.

This is a commercial ready-made for Sprint, with its insufferable puke in the black trenchcoat....

They could leave the note with the number. Make contact with LE and demand money. Then hope the money is delivered and they can get away with it.
The ones doing this are displaying a level of stupidity (IMHO) that has not been displayed by the shooter(s) to date. Doesn't add up to me.
But it's just my onw specualtion and opinion and I clearly don't have access to all the information that LE has. And that's all it is, noting more, nothing less.
I hope I am wrong.

It doesn't add up to me, either. If this is an al-Qaida operation, I can't imagine why it's not happening in 20 cities at the same time.
As an extortion attempt, there are a lot easier targets to extort than the government.
My best guess, and it's no better than anyone else's, is that the sniper is having fun with the police. He's screwing with all of us.

I hope the snipers go down to western South Carolina. The show will end quite soon if they do.
Wouldn't last long in Tennessee either. We's heavily armed.
O.K. This is not just directed at you, but at everyone else who has made some silly, chest-beating statements on other threads as well about why this guy better not move south if he knows whats good for him blah blah blah.
What the heck are you going to do about it??!!??! Seriously???!!

I am afraid, whether this one is the terrorists or not (and I still believe it could be and they are honing their tactics) ... it is showing them what they could do in 20 or 50 or 100 cities.
I pray to God we can avoid it. We need everyone armed and in a postion to have local Sheriff's or LE calling up sentry duyt, roving patrols, etc. That's what it should/will come to if it goes bad like that.

Thank you. We here in VA have guns, shall issue CCW, just passed a "right to hunt" amendment in addition to our existing rkba in our constitution. Are they planning on having a counter-sniper team stake out every gas station, restaurant, and retail store? No one has seen the sniper, so what the hell are they going to shoot at?

I find it strange that the anthrax letters were disclosed right away; while the anything to do with this sniper is not.

If it's a prisoner they want released, it seems to me that they would a) be calling the Feds, not the police. And b) it wouldn't be the perps who would make the call; the call wouuld come from somewhere outside the US, from the sponsers of the snipers.

This has the ring of the Unabomber. He demanded that his manifesto be published, and if it was, he'd stop bombing. When his brother finally turned him in he had at least one bomb almost completed and a couple more in production.

LOL!! Yeah, well all I gotta say is that sniper had better not come down here to south Texas where I am and start shoting people from 200yrds away if he knows whats good for him, because if he does he'll..... well we'll...... ummm...... I dunno, but he just better not.
Don't Mess With Texas!!
There, that'll stop him. We don't play around down here damnit!
LOL!!:)

Announced today that a number of Gitmo prisoners to be sent back to Pakistan. I hadn't heard that, but there's no way it's related. Bush is not Clinton.

This has the ring of the Unabomber. That seems more likely to me. I think we're dealing with a very intelligent nut.
