I've been thinking that all along. This guy/s is an expert at evasion, yet he would just sit at a phone booth in a vehicle that matches police descriptions across from a gas station in broad daylight? If this is true, he would be a candidate for one of those 'stupid criminal' TV shows. Somehow I think this sniper would put up more of a fight than that. The only other thing I can think of is a diversion. Maybe this person is working with the sniper and is just trying to tie up police and get the public's guard down while the real sniper prepares to strike again.

From CNN:

Investigators found a handwritten note in the woods near the Ponderosa. One source close to the case said the note contained "significant content."

Sources said investigators found the note after a caller to the investigation tip line said there was a note for police in the woods near the restaurant. The phone call, placed after the Saturday night shooting, was traced to a location in Richmond near where the man with the minivan was picked up Monday.

Sources said the note "hinted at a demand for money."

Montgomery County, Maryland, Police Chief Charles Moose, who is heading the sniper investigation, issued a brief, cryptic statement Monday. "We are going to respond to a message that we have received," he said. "We will respond later. We are preparing a response at this time."

Yup...that was pretty obvious early on...this guy has been extremely successfull in alluding LEO's since day one, I find it incredible that he would have easily and quite stupidly fallen for the ole "traced to a phone booth" dragnet.

I can't back this up with a link, since the story has since been updated, but I was struck by a curious comment on MSNBC this morning, after the arrests and statement by Moose. An LE source who had seen the "letter" left at the Ponderosa said he felt "we are in for a rough time."

I won't even begin to speculate on what he may have meant.

I also just saw a screen splash on CNN that some Gitmo prisoners are being moved to Pakistan. Coincidence? Who knows?

At the risk of going "tinfoil" here, what are the chances the note was particularly ominous in its contents? Moose's statements regarding the note and upcoming responses have an almost pleading quality to them. Now obviously that could simply come from not wanting to see other individual injured or killed, but I wonder if there is more.

Keystone cops, apparently now playing the games of homicidal maniac, amateur extortionists and an ex-con looking for his 20 minutes of fame... this wouldn't make it past the receptionist at Dreamworks...

This morning I was thinking it was extremely odd of this sniper has been so cunning, smart and well planned to escape every sniper shooting scene so far then just get caught and make two phone calls from the same phone booth. This sniper is no dummy.

This sniper takes pride in his "work", that is why he puts his signature on these shootings and didn't want others copycats taking credit. He stressed that point in the tarot card note he left when the 13 year old boy was shot. That is why he didn't want police to release the tarot card to the public so police would know when its really him and so copycat mixups wouldn't happen.

I guess the sniper will probably feel the need to clear up the situation in the next few days with another shooting.

Allow myself to embaress myself some more.

I believe that there is a terriorst cell bickering among themselves weather to keep this a "strickly" religous jihad or make some money out of this deal.

The note was left near the scene of the last shooting with out the knowledge of ALL the perps imvolved. There may be 4 or more.

The 1 or 2 indeviduals who want to make some money out of this sniping are going to get the WHOLE terriorist cell busted out of greed and stupidity.

This is going to be a comedy as soon as it pans out. Thats why every one is confused at this piont and media speculation is rampant.

The phone number on the note was for that phone booth the cops staked out and busted the nitwits.

Maybe these 2 guys were the greedy ones or the 2 left in the dark by the greedy ones.

Man this is getting interesting!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so sick of the way these sniper attacks are being handled. It sounds as though Moose is claiming territorial rights over the case and fighting with Virginia authorities, saying that the perp has been trying to contact him, so he should be the lead guy. The tarot cards were probably placed there after fact by some attention seeking idiot. It's time for the feds to move in and take over.
But wait, they can't do that because we don't have a homeland security force, because Tommy Boy didn't want it funded.
