By putting this info on the wire, I guess this gives the sniper(s) 24 more hours to clean his/her/their piece until the next murder. How ingenious! And how childish.

Fox indicated parents calls prompted this. It's a good thing we haven't had any suicide bombers - what would they do - Close the state? /sarcasm.

Nahh, its not the same. Kids can stand a day or two home; discretionary days are built into the calendar. By then the sniper may be caught or far away from here.
I sure as heck wouldn't offer up my kid to prove the "terrorists aren't winning". Game over. He wins that round. Its not worth the emotional cost.

It's the prudent thing to do. Kids and parents are frightened. Why provide bait for the sniper? C'mon, how long does this go on? Once the schools are closed what does it take to move to a decision to re-open them. Short of catching the sniper what will make it any safer to go to school Tuesday than tomorrow. Or maybe they stay closed all week...how will next week be any safer? This is crazy. I know it almost sounds cliche at this point but for God's sake we can't just close up shop and stay home, that's playing right into this b*stard's hands.

Why? Is Tuesday going to be any safer?

What message are we sending our youth?

Mom and Dad are smarter than the superintendent?

It is not necessary to close all the schools in VA., because the sniper will strike tomorrow in Maryland.

Once the superintendent made the big show of staying open, parents who have followed the case and know how the killer has seemingly responded to prior "challenges" probably saved a Richmond area child's life.

Hate to say it but there are about 100,000 kids in the Richmond area pumping their fists and going "Yeah!"
I don't like this precedent at all.

The message is that America is turning into a feminized-pussified nation.
This was inevitable, but I figured it would take a bit longer than this. This has the double message of encouraging the sniper(s) as well as showing children that Americans can be intimidated by only 9 deaths.
I suppose were their a full-scale military invasion, these days Americans would throw down their arms, and rush to embrace their captors.
This is what we get for embracing Divorce and Single mothers, it is causing the extinction of real men in this country.

The schools are open unless they are closed, so they will re-open Tuesday, unless they decided and announce to close again.
I live here. You can't know what it's like; I homeschool, but I can tell you I think my own and my childs mental well-being is worth more than the cost of a built-in day off.
And I probably WILL stay home tomorrow. So there. No shopping, Home Depot or craft store...not till I am fairly certain Mr Sniper man has moved on.
That said, I'd give my life to catch him....

Good one. Now, my point being they take their ideal from adults. How can we cower/hide in our homes and teach them they must resist and stand up against evildoers.
To: Thisiswhoweare
It's the wise thing to do. I only wonder why they haven't closed the schools up to now. These snipers are sick bastards. When that superintendent opened his mouth, he left himself open to the interpretation that he was challenging the snipers. If I was a parent in that area, I'd keep my kid home for temporary homeschooling.

I would keep my daughter home if I lived near sniper slayings.....they aren't going to learn anything tomorrow, your kidding yourself if you don't think these kids are too frightened right now to focus. I understand Ashland is a small town, a place where there's infrequent killings and certainly, they've never been on the "world's map."

S* you, buddy. I swear if that man lurks in Richmond, a native will take him out. Richmonders are tough.
But hubris isn't one of our worst qualities. When its your kid's safety on the line, feel free to put them in the shot-puller.

How do you figure? You think the sniper doesn't watch the news? He'll know the schools are closed. If he's determined to make his next victim at a school, why he'll just wait until they re-open. Or worse, he'll get some poor kid playing in his own backyard.
