You should be pissed. This is the nuttiest thread I can remember on Free Republic. We have truly lost our testicles.

The sniper hasn't SHOT AT one of THESE children yet....let's see if he does.

NamVet: That would be unprecedented for LE authority's to make a public "call to arms" to local citizenry!!! (it would send the dems into a frothing hissy!) It is much better for those who exercise their 2nd Amendment Guarantees, to walk softy and carry a full clip. I believe that is probably the case. I don't live in a gun restricted area, but if I did, I would say to hell with it and carry anyway.

Me neither. I dont get it. We are really in trouble when people on FR support this craziness. When did we become such cowards? Why is it so important to you to actually try to shame people who want to protect their children....What the h*ll are you doing? you rounding up any terrorist? got any groups of REAL men or militias going on to step up to the plate??? .....anything?? ....or is your job just to get OTHER people's kids to become bait?.......

Hey, speak for yourself. ;-p

Watch for these closings to spread throughout the entire DC metro area. Schools are run by liberals and "feelings" and symbolism mean far more than logic ever will.
The other school districts can't bear to seem less "caring" than Virginia's schools, now can they?
So let's ban hunting in Maryland, and close all the schools and do all kinds of stupid crap that makes no difference in stopping the killing, but appeals to those who feel more than they think.
So what if it only feeds the sniper and demonstrates to the world how easily we can be brought to our knees? It's for the children!

Or, how about.......
WE GO ABOUT OUR LIVES, UNDERSTANDING THAT NO ONE INDIVIDUAL OR TERRORIST CAN INTERRUPT THE LIVES OF THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY?????????????
Naw, that wouldnt work, would it?

Nice try, but your attempt to defect from the point wont work. That's because I wont give you an emotional response to your emotional rant.

Wow what a hot topic tonight!
Not having had much time for news tonight, I wonder if I missed something. A couple of questions come to mind reading this thread:
1) Do we know if there was a threat received regarding a potential school shooting?
2) Is it possible school was cancelled so that the districts can develop a safe plan to protect the children and they need the day for physical adjustments to the school structures / grounds?
3) Are all the people here crying about the downfall of America because of the schools being closed willing to take a few days off and go stand outside the schools when they reopen? After all, you guys believe the odds are small :)
4) If only 12 out of 3 million have been shot, should we wait until it is 400 before we start getting worried?
5) Do we really give a rat's ass if we make the sniper feel like he has accomplihed something by us closing the schools? I won't mind him dying while he waits for the schools to reopen.

As I said: we can have the 10 police officers and 3 sheriff deputies do it all....and, they can keep monitoring all the other criminals in the town, too. That'll be a perfect plan for this week.

Why is it so important to you to actually try to shame people who want to protect their children....
Lets just shut down the entire freaking country, confiscate all the guns, and put GPS locators on each of us. That would stop the sniper cold and protect junior.
Nothing wrong with shaming people who want to shut down the east coast in irrational panic.

"Why would you close school? It does not make sense. Chicken little...to the tenth power. You can not let this sniper shut the country down. This is insane." There's more going on here than we know about.

It's the prudent thing to do. Kids and parents are frightened. Why provide bait for the sniper? The nanny state or soccer mom state has decended on America ... after all, it's about our children. Let's all run and hide ...

They're only talking about closing tomorrow!
It seems reasonable that it would take a day to institute the security measures (though as I said earlier I don't see what's so good about those procedures).
IMO it's not unreasonable fear that's behind this delay, but a desire to prepare.
