I'll bet this wasn't the shooter. Think he's going to break cover and trot on down to the shooting scene? I think it was a witness to the shooting...maybe somebody waiting in their car for a kid to get out of the bathroom or something. When the shots rang out they split out of fear.

I've read this story several times. Is it me? What good would it do for the person who left the note with a phone number on it, call that phone number?
