The sniper gave Moose some reason to depart from his announced schedule. I wonder what that reason could be.
To: aristeides
No. (and after much looking)
I think this idea was a misunderstanding, not just for eno, but for Nix, too.

They want the Blind Sheik and his son back. I'll find the "message".
To: aristeides
...before he had a chance to consult with federal officials after they returned to work after the weekend on Monday.Yeah, because the FBI doesn't have anyone working on weekends......

Someone in another thread asked for a poll on who thinks the shooter is Middle Eastern terrorist versus a psycho. So, those so inclined, go ahead and cast your vote.
By the way, for some reason the back to site link will not return you back to FR, but redirects. Just back out or reload the thread. (I don't know why it won't return to FR)

Fox/CNN relayed an AP broadcast which quoted a "law enforcement official in Montogmery Co, close to the case". The AP story said the LE folks think it IS from the Beltway sniper. Did anyone just see the live CNN broadcast from behind the Ponderosa, in the wooded area. Kind of creepy. But since exactly 24hrs from shooting, gave a good sense of what the shooter probably saw.
To: spectre
I heard a reporter CALL in to FOX and said the message was found in the woods. (I heard this, darn-it)I hadn't heard this. It doesn't make much sense, but then again, what does in this whole thing?

Ted Williams has done stalwart work for Chandra Levy's family.
To: EarlyBird
"The whole conference was dictated by the sniper."
That may not be a "bad" thing...

eating chips and chugging a beer. Excuse me, but that is both unfair and untrue. I, for instance, am eating a giant chocolate bar.

I doubt the sniper is as stupid as Moose seems to be. The sniper would have to be out of his mind to walk into a restaurant at which he will shoot a person. Almost all restaurant now days have security cameras.
sounds like a practical joke by a sicko and Moose fell for it.

Maybe he gave Chief Moose the location of a phone booth to be at by a certain time, and if not, another person dies... Maybe this a run-amuk advance promo for the movie "Phone Booth."

Ironicly, this is the same thing that the DNC has been telling the press regarding their 2002 election platform... EL ZINGER.
Now there's the shot of the week.
To: gswilder
Yeah, that was Gary Tuckman's stand up. The shooter's-eye-view of the restaraunt gave me the willies. And along with Daryn Kagen I was wondering why the cops released the scene so early and let the Fourth Estate go traipsing through there? Fed them a bone so they'd stay off the cops' back about this latest?

You gotta work the leads no matter how ridiculous they might seem...

Blind Sheik Rahman has much to do with U.S. terrorism By Eric Fleischauer DAILY Copy Editor
Osama bin Laden's expressed loyalty to him demonstrates Rahman's importance to Islamic militants. Last year, bin Laden swore in a videotape that "we will work with all-out power to free our brother, Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman and all our prisoners in America, Egypt and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia)." One of Rahman's sons, Ahmed Abdul Rahman, was in the videotape and urged Muslims to "move forward and shed blood." The northern alliance announced Thursday that it captured Ahmed, who goes by the name "God's sword." Bin Laden and other Islamic militants issued threats as to the consequences of a conviction of Rahman, and more specifically threatened a violent reaction if Rahman ultimately dies in a U.S. prison.

Yeah, because the FBI doesn't have anyone working on weekends...... The guys who call the shots are either off on the weekend, or they are doing the president's work for him at Camp David. Why do you think Moose originally said there would be no press conference before Monday? On the other hand, the president does seem interested in this case.

With this poor imbecile the perp will call, they will chat, then the office holder will say have a nice day and hang up!

You are putting words in my mouth. My contention is that from the first I thought this was AQ terrorism. With this latest conference, it seems clear to me that it is a psycho on a power trip.
To: EarlyBird
If it is AQ, you can be sure that they have a "message" which they will want to get out to the public. They will try to use the news media to accomplish their mission -- to spread terror.
