CHILD SUPPORT: Officials say suspect had threatened staff before.
Two floors of the 19-story Atwood Building were evacuated Thursday morning after a man parked his blue Mercedes near the building's entrance, doused the car with gasoline and set it ablaze.

BTW..I know there are men who get a raw end of the deal in some child support instances.
But there are many, many men (particularly here in Ireland) who are getting away with blue murder.
For example, I have one friend who finally got the courage to throw her husband out after he had beaten her to a pulp in front of his three daughters. (For years before that she was a 'woman who walked into doors')
She now has to pay him half the value of their home, because he says he has no where to live since she kicked him out.
He has offered to pay her in court 50 a week (which is an insult) in child support for his three girls.
His wife works, earning just over the minimum wage, and relies on her family to help her financially, so she can get him out of her life.
That's why I have little sympathy for men who torch Mercedes instead of embracing their responsibilities to their children.

That's why I have a 17 year old car with 250,000 miles on the clock...

She was named after her tata's... Think she misspelled "bovine"?

Have you tried going to court to enter a motion for reduction in your payment amounts since you don't have a job?HAHAHAHA!
Reduction??? In child support?? They don't give a sh!t whether you have a job or not.. All they want is the money.. When I went to court for child support on my second child the judge said it did not matter if I was paying support for another child or not. I still had to pay the same no matter what.. I have never heard of them lowering anyone's child support but if you get a better job they will hit you for more in a blink of an eye!

I wish there were a fair system. Sounds like 50 would be a bargan, if he'd just stay away from them for that! Some people really shouldn't reproduce.
The system in the US is too far the other way, IMHO. No system will always be fair to everyone, but a better balance needs to be struck.
My heart goes out to your friend.

.Am I the only one to think it strange that a man who OWES $50,000 in child support would choose to set his OWN MERCEDES on fire? There's a good chance that he was going to lose the car anyway to repossesion. Sounds like this guy doesn't honor his obligations.

My ex, who violated our marriage vows numerous times, did exactly this. He found a good lawyer who convinced the judge to reduce his already meager child support payment to zero.

That said, have you entered the motion, or not? If you've entered the motion for a temporary reduction in child support due to having been laid off from your job, and they reject it, then you'll have a legitimate beef. If you haven't even bothered to enter the motion, then I don't think you do.

What did they say at the hearing when the support was cut? What did you say?

Who takes the easy way out? 30 % of women seem to point the finger in the wrong direction. Mama's baby, Daddy's maybe....

Just out of curiosity, does Alaska have the same charming custom of revoking driver licenses for failure to pay child support that other states (like California, for example) have? Yes.
It is federally mandated.
As part of the firearms act passed in 1998, under Clintoon (when they banned certain "assault" rifles and limited magazines to 10 rounds) they also slid through legislation that requires every state to comply with federal support enforcemnet guidelines - or lose federal highway funds. Bottom line is: if you don't pay your court-ordered child support, they'll get you, no matter where you try to hide.

The symbolism here is pretty accurate. This guy over extends himself then sends his own life up in smoke.
An Anchorage firefighter douses smoldering wiring in Jed Magby's Mercedes Benz after Magby set his car ablaze Thursday morning in front of the Atwood Building at 550 W. 7th Ave. in downtown Anchorage. Magby was arrested and put in a patrol car. After he kicked the back window out of the patrol car, he was hobbled and put in another patrol car.
BTW - Not only will you have your driver's license revoked, but any other license issued through the state as well (attorney, doctor, nurse, hunting/fishing license, etc.). Very comprehensive.

Hmmmm... This man is indefensible.
I'm sure that many other divorced women will support your position. But I don't think there's any point to your doing it here.

My ex was ordered to pay $50/week for our two daughters (he was making 60K/year as a PI). To relieve himself of that burden, he quit his job. At the time of our hearing, he owed my daughters 5K. The judge reduced that amount to zero as well because I was employed (in a minimum-wage job). He hired a great lawyer...I could not afford to hire one. The ruling stood, and I was given no recourse.
Although I must say, even after the years of poverty and struggle, I think my daughters and I have had the better end of the deal. He never bothered us again (he had threatened to kill all three of us over the measley $50/week), and hasn't seen his daughters in over 10 years.

I suppose then it's completely justified for men to get child support enforcement workers, no matter where they try to hide.

"I have come to consider children as the conduit of government intrusion into the life of an individual"
Absolutely. Women of child bearing age or those that have previously been on the whore tax, aren't worth ten cents as mates. It's not an attitude, it's just the ramifications of a bad law put on the books by none other than the Sink Master.
