New US shooting fuels sniper fears

Police in the American state of Virginia say a man has been shot at a restaurant, 70 miles (110 kilometres) south of Washington DC.

It is not known if the incident is related to 11 sniper attacks which have left nine people dead since 2 October and terrorised people living the Washington area.

Police said a sniper task force was on its way to the restaurant, in Ashland, Hanover County, and had sealed off nearby highways.

I heard that there were "several" possible candidates for sniper under surveillance (I don't know if these were a result of the partial-plates or other tips) and there was speculation that possibly the surveillance was what was keeping the sniper from attacking after Monday. It is interesting that given what a blab-fest the press has had with this one, the names of those under surveillance was not publically announced.

However, if this is the work of the sniper, then he must not be one of the watched suspects, is a copycat sniper, or part of a greater hit-network.
