New US shooting fuels sniper fears

Police in the American state of Virginia say a man has been shot at a restaurant, 70 miles (110 kilometres) south of Washington DC.

It is not known if the incident is related to 11 sniper attacks which have left nine people dead since 2 October and terrorised people living the Washington area.

Police said a sniper task force was on its way to the restaurant, in Ashland, Hanover County, and had sealed off nearby highways.

WRVA AM 1140 said the victim is 37 year old male. Witnesses reported seeing a white van with ladder racks.
