I teach American history and we have never fought a FOREIGN enemy on our own shores...all the combatants in the civil war were Americans! You teach history for a living?
If you do then you must know that the British burned down the White House in the War of 1812, right?

Open your eyes: THE COUNTRY IS BEING DESTROYED!
NO nukes fired, NO tanks rolling, NO bombs going off (yet), NO ships off the coast, NO planes overhead.
This has, effectively, suspended our nation and our rights.
Hysteroids take your Xanax alert...

I know what veterans fought for. It was for me to LIVE
Sheesh.
To: Mo1
It's live on WTOP now also.

My hat's off to you if you can drive 60 miles in 10 minutes at 60mph. I could only get 6 miles. Another million man math graduate.
To: Doohickey
Many of those engagements were naval---a fact that contributed to the start of the war....the illegal impressment of American sailors into British service...and much of the land battles (excepting the sack of DC and New Orleans and I'm not sure if Louisiana was actually a state then.) But you quibble.
Did we have tank battles with nazi Germany in DC or New York? Has our populace had to defend itself from a determined enemy on our home soil LIKE THIS? We have always been isolated and insulated from the direct effects of foreign combat, unlike most of the rest of the world especially in the 20th century. Ask the French what it felt like during WWII.

Local station here is reporting that police have two credible witnesses to the shooting. Press conference on now.

I happen to know that in ten minutes at 60mph you can be 60 miles away. And what school did you go to?
To: Doohickey
Dude,
60 miles per hour is a mile a minute. At that speed, ten minutes is ten miles.
To: Arkinsaw
Well, then let's be sure to put you down as not willing to open the trunk of your car, but fine with people killing other Americans.
Now, which of us cares more about this country?
To: Bacons Rebellion
What year did that happen?
To: Howlin
Maybe it's like some patriot somewhere said, "I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees"...I guess that's where I'm at...
Police saying, man still in surgery, in stable condition, no description of automobile, no description of suspect.

What happened to our eyes in the sky? Earlier there was a post about a police helicopter pursuing a white van. But there was nothing more. According to the weather channel it is currently cloudy, but visibility is unlimited.
To: js1138
Nah, that's a rate of one mile per minute. Do you play lotto?
I happen to know that in ten minutes at 60mph you can be 60 miles away.

I teach American history and we have never fought a FOREIGN enemy on our own shores...all the combatants in the civil war were Americans! Ooops. You forgot the War of 1812. 'Member? The British burning the White House?

That sounds more like a .223. Even a flesh wound can kill by shock. Some earlire posts said there was a suspicion it could be a less powerful weapon. Not really, .223 can enter and exit peripherally through soft tissue with relatively little damage, especially as range increases.

Actually, at 60 MPH it would take you one hour to go 60 miles. That's why they call it MPH. :-) 60 MPH is one mile per minute. Ten minutes gets you ten miles. drum roll.............
And the prize goes to...........
