Well if they are not sure if the shooter was firing an AR-15 or Ruger mini-14 then I really have sme questions for the ballistics examiners. Do these bullets have a rifling twist rate of 1 in 14, 1 in 12, 1 in 10 or 1 in 9. I would suggest by measuring the twist rate of the rifling they should be able to determine the particular type of rifle used. Maybe it is none of the above.
If the investigators are saying the shooter switched guns perhaps the caliber used in the latest shooting is different. What have they really said about the latest shooting?

If the shooter switched guns, what does it mean to say there is a ballistic match?

You just keep rippin' guys..those smile lines look good right now!!

They said the dog stayed on the scent for 3 or 4 miles.
Does anyone know what the trail looks like??

Does anyone know what the trail looks like?? It is a devided road with a median. 4 lanes, 2 in each direction. There is a service road on each side that runs right beside the Home Depot.

If you want to see a "match," read bcoffey's post #488. Follow the link. Sounds to me like the tactic used, regardless of the weapon(s). What do you all think?

Although we should leave ALL options open, the ME terrorism angle is definitely smelling funny...especially with the gov't diverting time & resources to the operation. You just don't see that 99% of the time (spy planes after shooting spree killers)...still, all options are open, Devil's Advocate says: What if the perp is betting people with think he's Islamic, and using THAT?

with = will. Blasted typos.
I just realized - profilers have taken the place of psychics in crime investigations. In the old days, police would turn to a psychic when they were dealing with an unknown repeat murderer. They'd hand over a piece of evidence, and from that the psychic would tap into his or her mystical powers to glean information and try and put the police on the trail of the killer. They were. of course, routinely mocked for this. But really, what do profilers do that's any different?
Profilers = Psychics, with mostly the same results. The occasional flash of insight, but mostly a large waste of everyone's time and investigatory resources.

Well, just got home and I'm relieved to see we are still incident free since Monday.
I don't want to upset those who are superstitious, so I'll knock on wood before saying this....
but one must wonder if the decision to bring in those military 'assets' for surveillance has made a difference here.

Except I think there are two teams working together on this.
Why? Because they're operating in such a strategic area and the communications are a little more complicated than we think...They have to keep the sniper "invisible".

I imagine clever profilers now do what clever psychics did in the past: they tell their employers what they want to hear.
