ZAMBOANGA, Philippines, Oct 17 (Reuters) - A bomb exploded in the centre of the largely Christian city of Zamboanga in the southern Philippines on Thursday but there were no immediate reports of casualties, police said.

The blast occurred more than two weeks after a home-made bomb exploded near a karaoke bar in the city, killing a U.S. soldier and two Filipino civilians.

Police blamed that explosion on Muslim Abu Sayyaf guerrillas linked by the United States to the al Qaeda network.

I wonder how difficult it would be to fly a private plane into the dome of the rock.

America has mastered desert warfare, but jungles are a problem (i.e.Vietnam).

The way South America is headed, I suggest we go get some practice....we may need it.

ZAMBOANGA, Philippines (AP) - Two bombs exploded Thursday in downtown Zamboanga city in the violence-wracked southern Philippines, and local radio reported at least two people were killed and others injured. The first blast occurred at 11:30 a.m. local time at the baggage counter of the Shop-o-Rama department store, and was followed a half-hour later by a second blast at an adjacent shopping centre. Police said they found a third bomb nearby and safely detonated it.

Military canine units were brought in to sniff for other explosives. All shops in the city's commercial centre closed and police advised people to stay out of the area.

Shop-o-Rama is a five-storey department store. The ground floor is a grocery, with other departments on the upper floors. It is located about two blocks away from the police headquarters in this city of 600,000 residents, and five blocks from City Hall.

A bomb blast in Zamboanga two weeks ago killed four people, including an American Green Beret. Officials blamed that blast on the al-Qaida-linked Abu Sayyaf group.

Wasn't there a bombing at a mall in Finland as well, maybe late last week? I think I heard Mike Savage talking about it.

Well said. It is, without doubt, a war of civilizations. We'd better win. I have my doubts, though, that we are equipped as a civilization to preserve ourselves against these maniacs. I think we might just be navel-gazing while the enemy puts the noose around our necks.

Bush is not going to state that this is a war against a religion, ever. What do you want, another Crusade? No, he has stated our/his position just fine. We at war with radical terrorists and we will destroy them. The last thing we need is a RELIGIOUS war, even though it really is just that in the whole scheme.

You are right I believe. However I beleive there are flaws in that thinking. You stated the decline of Arafat and Osama. But the theory of "you cut off the head and the body dies" I do not believe is applicable in this case. We are not fighting a snake but a regenerative hydra. To conquer the beast of Islam it will take a different mindset from the planners than I feel is underway. the body has to be destroyed along with the head.

Yes, he does...for public consumption. Betcha he know what's going on, though. He's letting them expose themselves..just a wild guess.

I wish I had your sense of optimism. If George had a sense of our borders and the sense that importing hundreds of thousand of ME immigrants after what happened on 9/11 was not a good idea perhaps I'd share your optimism. I don't. I think GW is a Sell Out who does know the score from "his" perspective and "the score" is not congruent with that of most Americans.

ZAMBOANGA, Philippines (Reuters) - At least three people were killed and dozens wounded when bombs ripped through a shopping center in the largely Christian city of Zamboanga in the southern Philippines on Thursday, officials said.
No group has claimed responsibility but officials said they suspected the blasts were the work of radicals fighting for an Islamic state in the south of the Roman Catholic nation.

At least 55 people were injured.

"Three people have died and 47 were brought in for treatment in one hospital I visited. There are also eight wounded in another hospital," Zamboanga Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat told Reuters by phone.

The explosions occurred amid a heightened security alert across the Philippines after deadly bomb attacks on the Indonesian resort island of Bali last weekend in which more than 180 people were killed and hundreds injured.

George W. Bush's "religion of peace" is a McClintock.

LOL one of my all-time favorite movies.Yes, the hell I won't. After all, who else got to spank Maureen O'Hara in front of the whole town? I agree, Dubya is using the unfortunately-necessary political expedience..and letting them hang themselves. I don't agree with everything he has done, but on this issue he is being patient, and playing all-night poker game.

Again, we're looking at hatred of Americans.

Even before Usama/Al quada became headlines, this group kidnapped, murdered, and tortured American citizens.

I do not see anything good about the religion, either. But, I will say that Bush and his administration is handling it well. Attack the attackers, but not the religion. Thus, every mosque and charitable organization to the terrorists will be closed...not in the name of religious persercution, but in the name of national security.
