Shepard Smith on Fox News just confirmed that anti-gun MD Gov. Paris Glendening has, by executive order, made illegal ANY discharge of a projectile weapon in four (4) counties around Washington DC.
This ban also includes bow/arrow and muzzloading hunting that are about to come into season, and all practice and recreational shooting.

Obviously the governor has hired that same guy from the FAA who made you answer those questions if you have packed any explosives, had anyone else pack your bags, and if you left them unattended? I knew that guy would get a job somewhere else soon.

There's another thread on this. It's apparently on Fox News. I guess we are on planet earth, strange as it seems. Well, we can't shoot the sniper with bows and arrows. What about straws and spit wads?
This is smart. Now instead of having police do important things like catching the sniper, they can be going after hunters for violating the Governor's order. And after crime victims who fight back for that matter.
I think that throwing bows and arrows into this order was a particularly nice touch. I was just saying to myself as I watched the news that the snipers were bound to switch over to bows and arrows any time now, and this will certainly head that off.

Good grief.... Don't you hate it when you see wildlife in the country? - Blast em!
Screw catching the sniper! - I have to defend myself against all these deer! < /sarcasm >
I mean really... I am all for hunting, but lets not treat deer as the villian here.

Yep, I told my husband at dinner this evening that if he's planning on shooting me tomorrow, better do it tonight instead. The only thing I can say is that now the entire country can see just what an idiot this governor is.

I understand the logic of false alarms. But there are several problems:
1. How many bans are outside of town and city limits?
2. How many bans were made without due process? This is an executive order.
3. If we aren't allowed to shoot the sniper with bows and arrows, are spit wads allowed?
4. Why doesn't the governor vow to pardon anyone using a gun to stop a criminal, in particular the sniper?

They ought to have an immediate recall petition
If this bozo had done this earlier he would have saved all those lives

I have no intention of reading the entire thread, but I am a gun owner with a concealed carry permit and I understand what Glendenning did: any report of firearms discharge can be assumed to be criminal, possibly the sniper, as all law-abiding citizens will now refrain from discharge of weapons in the counties named.
I am as disgusted by Glendenning on principle as anyone here, but this a sensible temporary order.

I don't know.... have any of us actually seen what was written? I haven't... - Aren't we all reacting to a few lines on Fox news?

...I have to defend myself against all these deer! ...No joke here in Southern Virginia. The laws were so tight, we were overrun with deer for some time. People kept having collisions with them on the road. A lot of people would die if they weren't thinned out.

These counties ARE prime hunting spots. Suburban Maryland is overrun with deer. In fact, there is no bag limit on does this year in these counties. And I'll be a lot of hunters don't get this news in time, since muzzle-loader season opens at dawn on Thursday.

I think you are right.... It makes sense to me too... as a temporary measure until they can find this guy.

I would agree with you except for a few things:
1) If it was coming at the request of the White House, you would have Ashcroft ordering it for Virginia and DC too, with Warner right at his side.
2) If it was about aiding the high-tech equipment, then why the ban on bows and arrows?
3) If this equipment relied on no other gunfire, how could it ever have been any use in an environment like Afghanistan?

"I say if someone gets a shot at him, take it!"...But not during hunting season right? After all, as you said, all those shots fired off during hunting season (though why you think people hunt DEER in urban areas like middle school sidewalks, parking lots and auto dealerships is beyond all of us) will just confuse the city cops and force them to investigate all that shootin' going on in the woo...I mean the parking lots. Can't trust those darned deer hunters...

If I were a bow-weilding citizen of Fairyland, I'd understand too. I'd put my bow up [Governor's orders], arm myself with a wet noodle, and challenge the sniper to a duel if I run into him.
To: El Sordo
This will add to the police distraction, not take away from it. Now the police will be tied up arresting those who violate the order, who are doing absolutely nothing wrong.
And bows and arrows? Please.
This is an anti-gun, anti-hunting left wing governor deciding to take advantage of a situation to persue an anti-gun, anti-hunting left wing agenda. Nothing more.

Muzzle flash detectors from space might work if it wasn't for those few hundred thousand cars zipping around with catalytic converters. We couldn't even show the ATF raiding Waco from 100' in the air. What makes you think NASA can pick up your toaster in Rockville from 20 miles high?

Gunfire like that produced by a bow and arrow?
Are the police being sent off on many wild goose chases right now? I see no evidence of that whatsoever. I have seen one case where they were called and it turned out to be nothing- but it wasn't a valid gunshot that was reported, it was a completely made up situation to begin with.

If this equipment relied on no other gunfire, how could it ever have been any use in an environment like Afghanistan?Interesting question. You will have private mail shortly. FReegards....
