I'm not kidding. I wouldn't want to live in an area where there is a killer on the loose and listen to gunfire. And when the gunfire starts, and the calls come flooding in to 9-1-1, how many resources are going to go to checking out someone shooting at wild game while the sniper hunts his human quarry.

How much hunting occurs in the suburbs, anyway? This is STUPID.

That's interesting.. I wonder how many random shots people had to hear. I'd venture to say very little.

The areas you COULD hunt in these four counties are way out in the country where this time of year the locals know it's hunters, not serial sniper murderers. I mean, it's not like someone is deer hunting at White Flint or duck shooting at the Landover Capitol Center.

You're an ______. Fill in the blank. Do people hunt in the burbs in your area?

I'm not kidding.

That's sad.

The other thread says that the ban includes the use of archery equipment. How far away do you think that you would hear someone shooting an arrow from a bow? Do you honestly believe that you would mistake the sound of an arrow leaving a bow with the sound of a rifle?

The attacks have been in urban areas where firing guns is likely already illegal. No one is going to be shooting for pleasure in the parking lot at the strip mall. If you hear a shot in this area, there is cause to be alarmed. On the other hand, people who live in rural areas are used to the sound of gunfire. They aren't going to assume that every new shot is the sniper, so they aren't going to call the police at the sound of every shot. Therefore, they will not distract resources from where those resources are needed. That argument is silly.

Likewise, whoever is monitoring the equipment that they have looking for muzzle flashes ought to be smart enough to recognize that a shot fired at a gun range or in a hunting area is not going to hit someone at a gas station. If the people and technology are that confused by hunting, then both are too stupid to catch anyone. That argument is silly also.
