I wonder if the sniper continues to attack near highways because he now knows that it will draw a massive police presence and leave the side streets and back streets with less police?

From Seven Corners, Wilson Blvd. is an arterial street that parallels US 50 eastward into Rosslyn, where he could either hit I-66 and the Roosevelt Bridge, or hop the Key Bridge into Georgetown. Also in Rosslyn, he could hit the GW Pkwy in either direction, and on the DC side, River Rd. and the Clara Barton Pkwy would take him back out to the Beltway well above the police cordons.

There are several other roads that could get someone around these cordons fairly easily, I'm afraid.

Suppose you looked over and saw a white van with a guy in it fitting description, sweating profusely,,,would you be able to pick up a dial your cell while he watched you??? What in hell would you do,,,this would be more terrifying than I can imagine.

There are Michael's craft stores in so many malls west of the Mississippi that I tend to agree it's a coinkydink. Probably there's a Denny's or whatever in or around each of these malls also.

Just called Fairfax Police. Very nice lady willing to take the time to listen to my whole story, take specific information and listen to what I had to say. Hope it helps. If you want to know the story you must read over last two days of posts. I'm tired of repeating this story. It is lengthy.

Maybe we can just move beyond the stereotyping tonight, then? I'd certainly appreciate it... it's bad enough I own an AR-15, and have sniper manuals...

You may want to turn yourself in. Just kidding. But you stereotyped olive-skinned people do when you *SOME*, suggestion some or most do smell.

From the Michael's website: (note the "Aaron Bros." references--are the founders or majority stockholders of Michael's Jewish? Would that imply a terrorism connection?)

History of Michaels® Stores, Inc.

Michaels® became a publicly held company in 1984 with 16 stores, mostly in Texas. During the early 1990's we embarked on an aggressive national expansion program. By 1995, we had more than tripled our store base to over 500 stores through new store openings and acquisitions, accomplishing our goal of becoming the nation's largest specialty retailer in our industry. During fiscal 2000, Michaels continued to build on its strong foundation, ending the year with 628 Michaels stores and 119 Aaron Brothers locations, and delivering yet another year of record growth and strategic accomplishments. Sales surpassed the $2 billion mark; net income increased 29%, demonstrating our ability to sustain strong sales and profit growth. For the fourth straight year, the Company has delivered increases in net income exceeding 25%.

Michaels stores are located in 48 states and Canada. The stores are large craft superstores offering a complete assortment of arts, crafts, framing, floral, decorative wall decor and seasonal merchandise. Michaels stores average 17,900 square feet of selling space and offer on average 40,000 items with annual average store volumes of $3.5 million.

Aaron Brothers stores are located in California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Texas and Colorado. Aaron Brothers is a wholly owned Michaels subsidiary which offers a complete assortment of ready-made frames and mats for the do-it-yourself customer, fine art supplies for the student and professional artist and complete custom framing services. Aaron Brothers stores average 5,900 square feet of selling space and offer on average 7,900 items with annual average store volumes of $1.1 million.

We also operate a vertically integrated frame manufacturing and custom framing fulfillment division, Artistree. This manufacturing division supports both Michaels and Aaron Brothers stores and currently has three service locations nationwide.

In May 2000, the Company acquired a single wholesale operation in Dallas, Texas, which it operates under the name of Star Decorators' Wholesale Warehouse. The target customers for this concept are floral designers, interior decorators, event planners and commercial businesses.

In addition, we are proceeding with our Internet initiative, michaels.com which we see as a permanent marketing arm of Michaels Stores, Inc.

As our mission statement says, our goal is to help people express themselves creatively. We design our stores to inspire shoppers to develop new décor and project ideas and to find the materials they need to successfully complete their projects. We offer classes and demonstrations that teach basic and advanced skills and provide hands-on experience in a community environment.

In Israel I recall that there were terrorist attacks that happened on more than one occasion at or near a pizza chain called Sbarro's. If the shooter is associated with a cell he may well be making a statement that is indicative of the location of the killing, e.g. Michaels, Home Depot, Exxon, etc.

It's still a pain to get to I-66 from there. Much better at night than during the day.

That's the best argument why it isn't Al Qaeda.

Really? Look at the noise over this. It's all over the media. Growing every day. Lot's of focus on one place. Assets and manpower being moved to one spot. Makes folks want to drop their guards if they are not local.

So far, one thing is obvious. Nothing is obvious. That being the case the main thing to consider is the most recent event that would lead to this kind of activity. And that's 9/11.

The moon people are first on the list until they are not....

"Bridges are blocked, aren't they? I wonder if he got across to D.C. before they blocked them."

This shooter must be a real pro. He's long gone. Could be near the Delaware border by now, if headed north.

IMHO, the police should start straightening out the local traffic problems down in North. VA now!

It depends on the bullet. .45 Full Metal Jacketed 230 grain has a dismal 60% One Shot Stop record.
Try Federal Hyda-Shoks or Quik-Shoks. I think both are over 90%.

"But how can you tell he has olive skin in artificial lighting?"

I don't have an answer but my sis did tell me on the phone a few minutes ago when I told her what was being said about an olive skinned person that she "heard" last week that a witness thought the person they saw (driving away?) was Korean. Not that he is Korean but so many people seem to be seeing someone who may not be darker complected.

She's listened to so much news since she's in MD that she can't remember where she heard that. Anyone else in the area hear that?

For the record, I still have no opinion as to who this may be, terrorist or home grown wack job.

But you wanna bet it's the same caliber weapon in this specific incident?
