Baltimore Sun ^ | Oct 13, 2002 | Sun Staff

Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. accused his Democratic opponent yesterday of trying to capitalize on the fear that has seeped into the Washington suburbs since the serial killings began, but Kathleen Kennedy Townsend responded that the congressman was trying to deflect attention from his own pro-gun record.

Campaigning in Prince George's County yesterday, the location of one of the sniper shootings, Ehrlich said Townsend's latest television ad, which includes an image of assault weapons, was inflammatory. The commercial - which began running in the Washington suburbs late last week - points out the Republican congressman's gun control votes.

GOOD! We need that debate brought up again. The 'Rats have been avoiding it like the plague because they know they'll lose on the issue.

"If we had that fingerprinting [for rifles], that guy wouldn't be free right now," Fitzgerald said of the sniper.

What an idiot.

The Sun continues it's usual role of cheerleader for every democratic candidate. This is why CFR must be overturned.

This comment, though, is unusually ignorant, even for the Sun: """If we had that fingerprinting [for rifles], that guy wouldn't be free right now," Fitzgerald said of the sniper. """

Fitzgerald is just assuming that the rifle was legally purchased in Maryland. Not bloody likely.

But, if it was, you could bet on two things:

  1. The perp stold it.

  2. The owner would be the prime suspect, whether or not there was any actual connection. And hordes of media and face-saving law enforcement types would be delving into his background rather than trying to locate the perp.

Wonder of Townsend's gun control position has anything to do with the fact that her Grandfather was a Nazi sympathizer?

All Ehrlich has to do is run one ad telling the voters of Maryland that KKT intends to keep them dependent, defenceless victims- only more so. It will work, because it has one, simple, saving grace: it is the truth.

Joe (Abdul) Psycho: "Here is my rifle for fingerprinting".
State Official:"Oh, thank you very much. Did you purchase this in Maryland?"
Joe (Abdul) Psycho: "No, it was smuggled in from Canada. By the way, I was wondering how long this is going to take since I am planning on killing random people this afternoon."

As a native Baltimorean who now resides in Stafford VA the only thing I miss about the Sun is detailed coverage of the O's. Maybe that is a good thing considering what Angelos has done to the team. On topic, I love my native city but am so glad I do not have to endure Maryland politics anymore. As an aside, if DC keeps making headway with the representation in Congress issue - I say give all non-federal land back to MD - the state gave it to the Feds in good faith. At least that would save us from two eternal Senate seats.

Make that "two eternal liberal Senate seats". That is also assuming there is no hope that Maryland will ever wake up in the political sense.

It's interesting that the Washington Post slams KKT (a bit) in an editorial today for politicizing this issue. I know it is a liberal hot-house, but the WP seems to be trying to find some balance (or at least some reason).

I am looking at the Outlook section right now - do not see any reference to KKT and the politicizing of the sniper crisis.

Fact is there are more than enough laws on the books to handle this so why hasnt it stopped. Simply put you can make it illegal and guns will become an import just as drugs are.If liberals cared about morals like they do guns America wouldnt be mirred down in this cesspool.
Ms. Kennedy-Townsend. it is already illegal for Felons to own guns, so how do they still commit crime with them? Simple you liberals want to keep them out of jail and give them voting rights. You are forcing honest people to become criminals just to protect themselves. The only people government protects is the rich, powerful and politicians!

And instead of going through an FFL dealer and NICS I'll have to hang around the local high school when I want to buy a new gun. :)

He needs to use the word DISARMED, as in, "It's a strange time to disarm law-abiding American citizens!"

If the rifle is an AR-15 type, you can just put another upper unit with barrel on it in 30 seconds. Then sight in again at the range. This is an unlicensed part, free from any of the NICS checks. Of course, Maryland would then try to consficate all AR-15's.

Yep, "DISARMED POPULATION" led to believe the police would protect you!!

WRONG. Police will just clean up the crime scene and perhaps capture the bad person (only 60%) of murders.

Want more good news? You cannot sue the police for failure to protect you.

Want even more good news?? Gun grabbers want the oblivion population to believe that taking all guns will protect them from the six million felons in jail who committed felony acts to get their.

When will the oblivion population wake up??

It is time anti-gun American citizens wake up to the fact they are responsible for their own self defense. If they want to be dumb and stupid and not provide self defense for their own protection that is fine with me. However, do not lecture me that I can not provide protection to my family or for my family members to protect themselves. This personal self defense with the support of police will give America the strongest defense against criminals.

Regarding the Maryland scumbag here are the facts.

The only thing this scumbag needs is to be six feet under. A coward title is too good.

This killer is not a sniper, not a marksman, not a expert, not a valuable citizen of the United States, not worthy of all the media attention give by the blood and guts media hype and thirst thrown at us by the media.

If you want the terror to stop in your life, turn off the talking TV heads; turn off the liberal media blood and guts 24-hour hype.

This morning on CNN interview with the Montgomery sheriff he stated than he appreciated the flattery given that policeman will protect the public. But he stated police seldom prevent crime. This was in response to police inept ability to stop the last shooting when a police officer was apparently within 50 yards of the shooting.

When the American public wakes up to the fact that that Law Enforcement cannot protect you. It is up to YOU the American citizen to protect yourself, your family and your loved ones. I hope and pray that some citizen will see or actually stop this scumbag in his tracks.

Unfortunately in Maryland, citizens are disarmed by government and are at the mercy of bad people. 25,000 gun laws are not stopping this scumbag. 80 million gun owners with 240 million firearms are praying this scumbag is nailed. Most all of them would pay the privilege to be excitation. I would bet that 75% of the anti gunners would pull the trap door on this scumbag as well.

It is time to get a life. Our hearts go out to all the victims and their extended families.

So the medias characterization this scumbag is a sniper is just media hype to sell airtime.
