I raised this point (along with many others, I imagine; 700 posts are hard to review quickly) on the live thread running today. I stepped out my back door for a smoke, and on the 3-4 streets I could survey, I counted 16 white vans in less than 5 mins. Of course they were all utility vans, AT&T, Avista Utilities, Qwest, and some local small businesses, but still, there are too many to count. I dont think that the perps are in a van at all, much less a white one...JFK

Yes, most utility vans are white. You could go to nearly any intersection in any city over 15,000 and you would see a white utility van go by within 10 minutes.

Reached for comment, Van Johnson had none. <|:)~

What you say is true, but the white van seen leaving the scene today was bumping other vehicles in order to get away.
Presumably now they will have some forensic evidence, (paint chips) to narrow down the make, model, and year of this white van. Interestingly, there is a ladder mounted on this van.

Yeah. Sitting in a restaurant last night, I noticed that one went by every few minutes, sometimes two at a time.

I was just talking about this with my wife. The media in the DC area is horrible. They would sell their mothers to get out as much info as possible without thought to the repercussion(tarot "I AM God" card). Anyway, every two minutes they talk about a white van, A WHITE VAN!!!! Now, I am afraid, the only thing people look for now when they are at one of these horrible scenes is to ONLY look for a white van like vehicle. And like everyone is pointing out, there are a lot of them out there.
I am afraid, that the sniper is laughing his ass off while he drives away in a Honda accord.
BTW, that white van pushing other cars out of hte way to leave the area, was stopped and it was just some scared guy trying to get the hell out of ther area.

Have you ever noticed that most vans are white?
More evidence that the white van keeps the black van down.

As I posted elsewhere.....
Im starting to get a sneaky suspicion that the white van maybe a decoy. You know, let team 1 set up for the shot and a super clean team 2 goes and parks close by the victim.
After the shot they just drive away ..reinforcing the clue that a white van is the perps auto... if their stopped theyre clean... In the mean time the shooter/shooting team gets away......OR..
as someone else said...
the shooter may be just waiting for a "White Van" to come close and since he is shooting at a randum target shoots the first clean shot he has...(remember most Gov't Vans are white) IMHO

I think they probably are driving a white van or minivan. They can "hide in plain sight" that way. Two of my other, random, thoughts about the "random killers":
- Maybe the van was originally another color, and they painted it white. Their vehicle's record would be even harder to find at the DMV.
- I think they are trying to keep people away from gas stations so that they can bomb the stations, explode them, whatever, without many people to stop them. What better way for them to disrupt our lives? Gas stations are usually along main roads, so traffic would be stopped in that area.

Either this guy is going to have to give himself up, or a citizen is going to have to disarm him, or he's going to have to buy air time on the networks and cable news, identify himself, and give the police directions how to pick him up. Or this thing is going to go on forever.
If you need a dozen donuts from Krispy Kreme, the police can be of potential service. Seriously expecting the police to solve this case is a stretch.
The killer is giving away clues to try to be caught. Next steps: painting "I'm the sniper!" on his van in 6-ft. high letters, and listing his name, address and phone number; and driving 10,000 miles a week on the beltway.
If that doesn't work, he'll wear a sandwich board with the same info and walk 24x7 in front of the entrance of the Justice Department in DC for a month.

Guess it depends on where you live. Out here vans come in two colors: beige and grey (and the grey ones usually have burgundy trim). Vans are the prefered vehicle of serial killers (used to be powder blue VW bugs) so there's a good chance this isn't a red herring (or I guess white herring in this case).

The reports have been all over the place on the vehicle angle: white box truck, white van, white box truck with double-wheel rear axle, Dodge Caravan with panel sides instead of windows, white Astro van, etc. Eyewitness accounts are notoriously unreliable. And you're right, white is one of the most common vehicle colors. I know. I work for one of the major Japanese vehicle mfrs.
