I work in a newsroom in Fredericksburg, and they heard on the police scanner that a person has been shot at a gas station at "Four Mile Fork" which is a neighborhood just south of the City of Fredericksburg.
No details yet, but I wanted to let y'all know -- and keep up the tradition of FReepers getting news first.
Pray for the victim, and pray that this is a random shooting, and that this monster's terror has not widened yet again.

The shooting was on Rt. 1 North. It's just east of I-95. City is Massaponax. Area is 4 Mile Fork.

Shots heard near some gas staion near Fredericksburg, Masoponix exit, missed the number. Live witness heard shot and saw white astro van.

All the TV boobs are reporting is that I-95 has been closed. I suppose that's because that's all the helicopter jockeys are able to report.
Keep your ear to that scanner and keep us posted.

I didn't catch the name of the town (it begins with Mas----an Indian name, I think.) The town is Massaponax (just get hooked on phonics and the pronunciation is easy). Four Mile Fork, which is what the specific area is called, is along U.S. 1. It's just a few miles south of Fredericksburg, about a mile from an exit of I-95. (Gimme a minute and I'll post a map)
I can tell you this, though. If they tried to escape heading north on U.S. 1, they picked the worst possible escape route. Traffic really sucks there.
UPDATE 10:11 a.m. EDT
Someone apparently eyeballed the shooter, not just his vehicle, but the shooter. We're getting conflicting reports about the pursuit. They have him going in different directions. The most solid indication, however, has him heading north towards Quantico, Va. (which jibes with the original chase report. U.S. 1 goes right to Quantico from Fredericksburg).

Hope they get the SOB.

That is exactly why this guy is using mini-vans. To create confusion. How many white mini vans do you think there are in any suburb area? I can go to wal-mart and be one of 10 on any given day.

BTW, what kind of newsroom do you work in? Radio/TV/print? Keep us informed, please. I'm an editorial writer and columnist for The Free Lance-Star, Fredericksburg's daily newspaper. My office is on the second floor, the newsroom is downstairs, but people keep coming to my door to give me updates.

TV 7 says it's a BP gas station outside of Stafford, VA. Their info is from the Stafford County exec. First reports say the white van was spotted headed north after the shooting.
