NEWSFLASH: Another shooting, approx. 9 AM, this time near Fredericksburg
The Free Lance-Star ^ | now | Jim Lakely

Posted on 10/11/2002 6:54:58 AM PDT by seamus

I work in a newsroom in Fredericksburg, and they heard on the police scanner that a person has been shot at a gas station at "Four Mile Fork" which is a neighborhood just south of the City of Fredericksburg.

No details yet, but I wanted to let y'all know -- and keep up the tradition of FReepers getting news first.

Pray for the victim, and pray that this is a random shooting, and that this monster's terror has not widened yet again.

They need to do the grid thing like when they search for kidnap victims with guard, swat teams hiding in bushes, etc.

draw a circle encompassing all the shootings... can you imagine how many square miles you're talking about?

Your scenario is quite likely.

This person isnt dumb, just demented.

I'm just waiting for some enterprising Gas Station owner to announce that his station will be offering FULL SERVICE again to all customers.

Someone could make a fortune this weekend.......

Remember that scary movie a couple of years ago where the victims were killed one by one? It was made by practically college students in Florida. Sounds like they are employing the one by one method to add to the suspense. I can't think of the name of the movie but it sure sounds similar.

I wish the media would stop hypothesizing on the next BEST target for the sniper to drive fear into the hearts of the people.

Or maybe give him ideas.....

"Sources with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and firearms told News4 it is likely a Colt AR15, much like this M-16, or a Ruger Mini 14. Does anyone know if these all use the same ammo?"

I got this out of the colt web site.

Colt AR-15 A3 Tactical Carbine

As a lightweight and compact platform, the AR15 provides law enforcement with the performance and accuracy for targets outside the handgun range.

Model -- AR6721

Name -- AR15A3 Tactical Carbine

Finish -- Black anodized receiver; black oxide barrel

Action -- Semiautomatic, gas operated, locking bolt

Caliber -- 5.56mm (.223 Rem)

Capacity -- 20 rounds;30 rounds optional

Barrel Length -- 16.1" HEAVY barrel

Overall Length -- 32" to 35"

Rifling Twist -- RH; 1 turn in 9"

Rifling Grooves -- 6

Trigger -- Smooth

Front Sight -- Adjustable

Rear Sight -- Detachable carrying handle with integrated M16A2 target style; adjustable for windage and elevation to 600 meters

Sight Radius -- 14.5"

Weight -- 7.0 lbs. (empty)

Special Features -- Carry handle detaches to allow optical mounting of tactical sighting system. Cartridge case deflector for left handed shooting. Two 20 round magazines, cleaning kit and sling are standard. Can be field stripped without special tools.

This is the website for a picture. Looks military.

Nah, the only reason IMO is that Bushmaster makes as good of better rifle than Colt, and for less money. The AR series is very flexible, having everything from belt fed light machine guns, carbon fiber pistols, and long range competition "Space Guns", and most are NOT Colt. Equating AR to Colt is just a Cop being wrong.

AR comes from Armalite, who employed Eugene Stoner to develope them.

They still produce the AR-15, AR-10, AR-18, and some other cool stuff. Great rifles, they also make real long range rifles, like AR-50.

Man, I know the LEOs are trying, but this looks like an act of total desperation. And if they don't get him in a choke point today, sniper guy will be wise to this tactic tomorrow.

Well, I had a '78 Volare for a while that was hard to fill. If I let the guy do it, I'd only get 3/4 of a tankful. It took 10 minutes of pumping and shaking the car to get that last quarter in.
