He states that his position is in part based upon Washington's admonition about not getting involved in entangiing foreign alliances. But didn't we entangle ourselves when we abandoned enlarging domestic oil production in favor of being dependent upon OPEC nations?

Duncan is my congressman also. Before I get flamed, I am a Republican, although I am struggling to vote for RINO Lamar Alexander.
I agree with Duncan's statement. If we should be threatening war with anyone, it should be Saudia Arabia. We're going to lose a bunch of young men trying to get Saddam. I say let him rot. He may be crazy, but not crazy enough to attack the United States. If he does, then I'm all for it.

I could care less about what happens to Saddam. I'm more concerned with Congress abdicating their responsibility and what the results of that will be down the road.

"I'm glad there are still statesmen like Ron Paul who understand their first interest is the liberties of their constituents, not the profitability of politically connected foreign enterprises."
I am sorry if Ron Paul wears a libertarian label but it means you can't bother the "yellow dog" Republicans or the Convenience Conservatives with Ron Paul type beliefs that when they donned the uniform of the USA the kids of the armed forces didn't promise to kingdom build or defend and build our next years' enemy.
The Bush family war is popular here and I will apologize to anyone who will go themselves, or send their sons/daughters or grandchildren to do the front line thing..unlike the Gore-type wartime experience. But elitists don't give up their children that readily, don't you know, only the masses are fair game.
In any event unless we go for Saudi,Iran and whoever else we are protecting no one least of all ourselves and doing the Daddy Bush thing in sparing the next-up enemies for a time when numbers, oil (& other produce) or the economy need help.

I could care less about what happens to Saddam. The correct expression is "I couldn't care less." Oh unless your under twenty five, then I'll wait to explain it until you grow up.

"Ahhh, it's all about oil and crusading politicians, meaning our President." No, Dog, it's about letting our state militias handle this.
You know - if they attack California then the California Militia takes care of the problem.
Since the California Militia doesn't have any planes or ships, they'll just have to wait until the bad guys get through bombing them before they can fight.
The Nevada Militia can't help fight unless the bad guys cross the state line.
Have I got your Libertarian ideas about right, gunslinger?
You and Ron Paul need a competent shrink.

"But, since he is a Libertarian, he doesn't believe in the armed forces anyway, right?"
LIBERALtarians are self absorbed cowards. All they care about is themselves and what little money they have. Basically this one is another empty suit.

I'm much more interested in a response to the arguments I've actually put forward, instead of this kind of diversion.

Your sympathy is much appreciated.
Sadly, thanks to some meticulous gerrymandering, the ignorant swine will probably hold that House seat in perpetuity..... after all, death is not a disqualifier for incumbent dimocrats.

The only one that didn't surprise me was Ron Paul. He's made his opposition very clear - I caught him on Sean Hannity's show yesterday (Wed.) with his view (I think it was faulty; Sean appeared to think so as well). The others? Did any of them say...anything to support their position?
If not, then that removes any respect I had for them. I can respect Paul; I think he's wrong, but he does vote consistantly with his convictions. I'm not so sure about the other five.

Ron Paul is a charmingly eccentric old man who keeps losing money for his district So in other words, you'd rather have a guy who fights his way to the government barrel and pulls out the biggest, juiciest greese-covered glob of pork fat he can get his hands on just like every one else of the big spending liberals in congress? He represents folks on the TX Gulf Coast like Barbra Streisand does. Hello? Is anybody AWAKE in Freeport? Why do they keep electing this freak?
From what I'm told through family and friends who have lived in his district for years and through other reps, his constituent case work services are the best they've ever had from any congressman.
No wonder Surfside looks so horrible.
Say what you like, but I'd give my vote to Surfside any day over that trash filled brownwater democrat-represented dump on the other side of san louis pass called Galveston.
To: leilani
it's the folks in Freeport who have to pay for it by watching their hard-earned taxes go up to pay for Tom Daschle's neighbors' bikepaths Or maybe...just maybe the folks in freeport don't want the federal government coming down into their homes with strings-attached bike path money and every other project imaginable under the sun. I know I certainly wouldn't.
To: TheGrimReaper
As a hostage of TX 18th District, I have first-hand experience with this moron....and I can say, without reservation, that Ms. Jackson-Lee is the stupidest creature currently wasting oxygen on this planet. That's because she's related to Jessa Jacksun and Al Shaptoon.
To: tomahawk
Maybe he thinks the bill doesn't give the President
enough power. Sometimes, when they know a bill will pass easily, the real conservatives vote contrarian to send a message.
Pretty stupid in this case because it's such a historical vote.

Since you obviously didn't read the numerous replies already posted on this topic, allow me to summarize:
It is not the government's money, it is the taxpayers' money.
Electing a head-in-the-clowds representative who is more concerned with dressing up in powdered wigs and pretending to be George Washington than fighting for his constituents allows their hard-earned tax money to go to other districts to build bike paths for Tom Daschel and his friends, instead of paving roads in the 14th District.
Seeking to inform.
