No body has said whether there was anyone else in the car or was walking back to the car. We might have a witness with some "awareness" and also some videos. The cops are at a disadvantage with night time in play.

A white truck was seen behind the Grassy Knoll in Dallas.
A white truck was parked in the alley when JFK was shot.
A white truck was parked 2 blocks away in Oklahoma City.
White trucks are EVERYWHERE. I'm with you on this.
The tarot card was found next to matted grass.

Or the 28 year old, who lost his job, who's wife dumped him and it's him against the world.....

If you see lots of cops, you are getting no extra protection, the cop standing near you is just another potential victim with a useless pistol.
The cop who will provide you protection is the one you do NOT see who is beating the bushes in potential shooting sites, keeping the sniper from feeling safe as he sneaks in and out.
The sniper likes to feel safe, he takes great care in selecting his escape route and shoot site. If cops are all over them, he will stop or go elsewhere.

John...You're right that the white truck is "something to look for and exclusionary". It certainly may give the snipers an advantage.

We could be at war on our own soil.
To: Joe Hadenuf
He will be harder to catch, since no one is keeping track of him.

It will be a citizen, not a cop or fed that outs and/or kills this terrorist. You meant to say 'civilian,' friend, for cops and feds are citizens.
To: Joe Hadenuf
I think he only follows through when the formula lines up exactly. I think he has traveled to countless places over the last week and wound up NOT shooting anyone...because the conditions were not just right.
If he can't find the right place to park, or he doesn't like the way the group of pedestrians across the street look, he does not shoot. Everything has to be just right for him. Maybe the extra observance of some citizens has already saved some lives. Maybe they made him uncomfortable and he moved on.
Perhaps the more diligent the people of the area are, the harder it will be for him to find easy targets. I hope so.

who lost his job, who's wife dumped him and it's him against the world.....
Someone like that would be too emotional or pychotic; he would be doing things completely differently...

Like 60 miles down the road?.....This guy seems to know what he's doing....And if this recent event turns out to be him.....well it gets uglier......

Well, deah, I hope that the detail of Secret Service that Bush has sent out, will be at your beck and call on your errands and such. Just remember that President Reagan was shot surrounded by them.
I am not being unkind. I am just trying to tell you that the police cannot protect you, ever. Nor, can you protect yourself from all harm.
But, arm yourself and be vigilant. That is not to say that you are safe, either, in doing so, but it helps.
To: Travis McGee
I understand what you are saying and I agree with you because it makes sense.
However, that is not what I feel. Seeing more police will make me feel better. And I don't think I am the only one who will feel better when I see lots of police. Everywhere. Until they catch this guy.

If people in the area aren't already 'real paranoid', they are in denial. If I were in the area, I'd send my family off on a trip.
Catching a bullet is a remote possibility. However, the outcome is serious enough to give even that small probability some considerable weight.
Assume for a second that it is a terrorist team, and they don't care about anything but one-shot results, and evading detection, in order to promote their scheme. Assume that they have some minimal level of training, and the disipline to adhere to it.
It could amount to a long siege. I certainly hope it doesn't.

We will see. This guy will be caught, just a matter of time until he makes a mistake.....Or someone that knows what's up, gets cold feet.....
To: Crowcreek
And you are correct. If this continues, this will impact that entire region in many ways, even more than it is now.
To: Sacajaweau
Yes, it does give the police something to do. There's such an incredible lack of information, after a shooting they're literally left with nothing to do if they're not investigating the crime scene...they can't pull over EVERYBODY, and they're as frustrated as anyone else. So they're pulling over white vehicles.
But the police pulling over white vehicles left and right after every shooting helps give credence to the whole "white truck" thing making it more likely witnesses will report white trucks speeding away at each further shooting.
Actually, as I've noted earlier, if this guy is caught, and it's determined he's never owned or stolen a white truck (ESPECIALLY if he's not the ethnicity most FReepers are hoping for) look for an infinite stream of posts, and, within a few months, books, about the two Arab guys in a white truck who were the REAL killers.

Good point!

Could this be a test-run for additional areas of the country? Does it have the markers of a scenario that could be added as a "copycat" for an additional area or (areas) if so, when will some solid conclusions be drawn.....if ever?
