BREAKING: One more shooting in DC area

FOXNEWS just reported that another shooting has happened in the DC area (Prince George?). A man was shot an killed at a gas station.

No, not at all. There was continuous news coverage on the local stations all day Monday. They did not even break for commercials.

My guess is that the families know more information than the police want the general public to know - e.g., nature of the wounds. Also, there is every reason to believe that the lives of family members could be in danger.

Personally, I find the parade of victims families after these kinds of events voyeuristic. And there must be some people in this world who would prefer not to have TV cameras documenting their grief...

Yep, I agree. He doesn't fit any of the typical psychological profiles. The closest profile would actually be military. I think he may indeed be a terrorist, who is very well trained.

Has the time been clarified? All evening the 8:15 time has been mentioned but I thought I heard the Chief say it was 10:00. Was he perhaps answering a different question? Does anyone know? This thread started right after 10:00 ......

My daughter lives in the area. She was already pretty up-tight but now she is really freaking ...... she was at that gas station about 7:30 tonight with her 2 pre-school aged children!

I heard the UNIFORMED Secret Service was providing manpower as per an agreement made after September 11, 2001. All of the local area police forces, and there are many, share manpower now, as requested.

It's probable that he is for some/most of the time. What better way to escape notice? Someone is going to notice a guy taking a solid rest with a rifle in any setting -- but who would notice the door or window opening slowly after a car pulled up to the curb?

Besides, what better way to supress the report of the rifle, and give people the "backfiring muffler' impression?

I agree, up to a point, but really, how can you protect yourself from a sniper who is a couple hundred yards away, at night? Not go out in the first place?

A formula that enables the shooter to have the right access to a victim - any victim - and the ability to make an escape.

I am guessing a 20 year old college student who just stopped attending class.

He plays violent video games and is well read.

He will be busted when his Mom calls college and finds out junior has dropped out, and Mom goes to the closet and finds his rifle is missing.

Just my own hunch.

The whole "white truck" thing is has led (and I suspect WILL lead) to a tremendous amount of confusion.

1) From the original set of shootings, ONE witness saw some sort of white truck..didn't see anyone shooting from it.
No real proof it had anything to do with anything.

However, as these things usually go on FR, this has mutated to people claiming a white truck was seen at "all of the shootings", etc.

2) The situation with a white truck and the Manassas shooting is very unclear. Apparently the Virginia police were looking for one, but none of the witnesses local TV had mentioned one.

It's unclear to me whether the Virginia police were looking for/stopping white trucks merely because of the ORIGINAL white truck report from the Montgomery County shootings or whether it was based on new info.


3) IT IS A MATHEMATICAL CERTAINTY that ANYWHERE in the DC Area, at ANY strip mall or gas station, there WILL be a WHITE panel truck, SUV, pickup truck, van etc. somewhere very close to one of these shootings, whether it has anything to do with the shooting or not...simply because the shootings will always be near a busy road, and white is an exceedingly common vehicle color.

And since there will always be a white truck or van that just happens to be driving by on the highway when one of these shootings occurs, and the drivers likely may not hear a shot, there will ALWAYS be a white truck or van that was "leaving the scene." And since most people in the DC area speed like maniacs, it's also very likely that a white vehicle will be seen "fleeing the area" by someone, even if it's just someone driving by unaware a shooting took place and just speeding.

4) And we're now on to the problem of "witness contamination"..unavoidable in this case. It's crucial for witnesses to be isolated from the reports of other witnesses for the most accurate info. As soon as witnesses hear what other people saw, or confer or consult with other witnesses, they can really get skewed.

And we ALREADY have the lone "white truck" witness from the Montgomery County shootings...hence, at all of these shootings from now on, people are going to be focusing on looking for white vehicles around them. And as I've noted, there will ALWAYS be a white truck or van near EVERY shooting, so they'll ALWAYS see one.

There's a chance the ENTIRE white truck thing is a complete red herring, but because of the initial report, we'll be ensared in the white truck thing forever.

I know the cops can not protect me but I want to see my tax dollars at work.. I will feel safer when I see lots of cops, for as long as this sniper is on the loose.

I also find it distasteful. But, my radar goes up when NO major news networks has had any interviews with families of these multiple shootings.

You could be right. I do know, if this is another sniper guy killing, and if this continues, the people in that region are going to get real paranoid soon.....And with good cause, even though the chances of catching one of sniper guys bullets are remote, the thought will be in everyones mind, all the time....
