Islamic Leaders Call Protest in Pakistan Over Falwell Remarks
Tehran Times ^ | October 10 2002

MULTAN, Pakistan -- Pakistani Islamic parties have denounced controversial U.S. Pastor Jerry Falwell and called for a nationwide protest on Friday to condemn his derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammed, a spokesman said.

Falwell, who in a television interview equated Mohammed with a "terrorist," has hurt the sentiments of Muslims the world over, and the government should lodge a formal protest over his utterances, Kanwar Muhammad Siddique of the six-party alliance Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) said.

He said MMA leaders, including influential Sunni and Shia sect leaders Tuesday expressed resentment over Falwell's "objectionable remarks" and demanded he be put on trial for his attempts to disrupt world peace by inciting the Muslim community.

In an interview broadcast Sunday on the CBS television network's "60 minutes" news program, Falwell, a leader of the U.S. Evangelical Christian right, called the prophet "a terrorist".

"I think Mohammed was a terrorist. I read enough by both Muslims and non-Muslims, (to decide) that he was a violent man, a man of war," Falwell said.

"Falwell should be tried for acts of terrorism," Siddique quoted MMA leaders, including those of the main fundamentalist Jamaat-i-Islami, the Jamiat Ulema Islam, which supported the deposed Taleban regime in Afghanistan and the minority Shia community's Tehreek Jafria Pakistan as saying here on Tuesday.

MMA appealed to prayer leaders and Muslim scholars to highlight the life of Prophet Mohammed in their sermons at Friday congregations, the Muslim prayer day.

They should also adopt resolutions against Falwell, and stage rallies and protest demonstrations to express their anger against his "sacrilegious act," Siddique said.

Falwell's comments have drawn widespread wrath in several Muslim countries, with neighbor Iran calling upon members of the 55-nation Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) to speak out over the matter, AFP reported.

"This insult of the holy Prophet Mohammed by a Christian priest is part of a propaganda war by the U.S. mass media and the Zionists," Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi said on Sunday.

Speaking during a meeting with OIC Secretary General Abdul Wahed Belqeziz, Kharazi said Falwell's comments were "proof that the U.S. wants political, cultural and military domination of the world," official Iranian media said.

"Islamic countries, and above all the OIC, must not stay silent in the face of such unashamed accusations, and must not permit this clash of religions and civilizations sought by the expansionist and aggressive zionists," he added.

BWAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA I'm sure. I doubt 90% of Americans really care what Jerry Falwell says, and I'll bet 98% of muslims never heard of him.

"Falwell should be tried for acts of terrorism,"

Gosh what ever happened to "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words shall never hurt me"

These people are incredible. Words should be punished more than deeds.

Don't worry jihadis, I'm sure there's nothing you could do to insult Jerry "the Pope is the Antichrist" Falwell more than to call him a priest.

He does have your sassy little prophet's number, though.

To all Islamic clerics: Stop blathering. It should be easy to refute Mr. Falwell's claims, using the book of the religion of peace.

Then again, maybe the truth ISN'T on your side. Best to check with the moon god first.

"Falwell should be tried for acts of terrorism," Siddique quoted MMA leaders

We simply do not get enough information about the moose limbs' perspectives, and condemnations of ahem, "terrorism".

"Words should be punished more than deeds."

They're using the liberal play book for this. Self esteem injury is worse than actually killing a baby.

>>>"Falwell should be tried for acts of terrorism,"

Hahahahahahaha

Compared to Jesus and Moses, Mohammad can't be considered a non violent, peace loving prophet, in any real rational terms. There appears to be more outrage coming from these militant radical fundamentalists, over Falwell's remarks about Mohammad, then there was following the henious attacks of 9-11. This is the ultimate act of pissing in the wind.

Falwell called the Pope the Anti-Christ?
You're kidding right?

So did a number of Protestant Reformers including Martin Luther.

Last I checked, we were still allowed freedom of religion. If that's what Falwell believes, more power to him. He's not out stabbing Catholics or going berserk on anyone.

I'm getting the feeling there is an "uber" religion in ascendancy in America that governs what people of any faith are allowed to express. Run afoul of the tenets of this "civil" religion (the God of No-Name who is invoked at bland prayers during baseball games and military functions) and you are immediately drawn and quartered.

Protestants have said MUCH "worse" than this (ever heard of the great Scotsman, John Knox?). It is the sincere belief of many Protestants that the Catholic Church is an apostate faith from what they see as biblical Christianity. If you really thought that people were being deceived into believing something that would send them to Hell forever, you'd probably speak out strongly too.

I understand that many will take offense and disagree with what Falwell said, and I understand why, but I hope we all support someone's right to believe what they will in America, provided they aren't taking lives over it.

Just out of curiosity, what happens in Moslem countries when a religious leader there makes anti-Jewish or anti-Christian remarks? I'm just asking.

Falwell's right of course, but why is this all of a sudden such a big deal to the Muslims? Robertson, Graham, and Falwell himself have said similar stuff since 9/11, why is it just now that the religion of peace is getting upset.

Do all these people have nothing better to do but to protest all the time? Jeez! How often have some stupid Islamic radicals made insulting comments about America? How often have they set our flag on fire in public? How often have they burned effigies of our beloved President? Americans are far too busy leading happy lives to protest every insult the Muslims say against us. The Muslims should be embarassed to make such displays of hypersensitivity. To really piss these people off, we should film American people being interviewed on the streets. Have a reporter ask them, "What do you think of the protests going on against America in the Arab countries, and how do you feel about being called an infidel? And have everyone give responses like, "Where is Iran?" or "Well, I don't care what they say" or "I think they need to get those wedgies out of their butts." Then send it over to the Arab TV stations. For them to see that America doesn't care one way or another about their hatred and delicate feelings would get them so twisted!

I don't listen to Faldwell that much, but I will say these Imans rag on us all the time. When they stop preaching hate and destruction, and acting on it, we will stop calling them terrorist.
