[history]
After two years, two brothers accused of a week-long rampage of murder, rape and robbery in the American heartland will have their reckoning in a Kansas criminal court. The trial began Monday.
In all, Reginald Carr, 24, and Jonathan Carr, 22, face 58 charges each. Of the six people they are accused of trying to kill, only one survived. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Interesting how that heterosexual whites are never the victims of hate crimes. Kansas does not have a "Hate Crime" law.
That's GOOD or BAD, I don't know.....

Why is Fox News the only `elite' media channel that covered the story? CNN didn't bother because the perps are blacks? CNN is a wimpy channel, I haven't watched it in more than 11 years.
Uh, Spike. At the risk of being picky, if you haven't watched CNN in eleven years, how do you know whether it covered the trial or not?

--I am sure that the blacks on the jury will not be a problem.---
I wouldn't be too sure of that. WHile most blacks on juries fulfill their duties many others do not. Black jury nullification is a fairly common problem.
And judging from the comments of one of the black jurors seeing the defendents and saying, "I hate to see a black man go through this" it could well be an ominous sign of where his sympathies lie (i.e with people the defendants who share his skin color not the victims of this horrible crime)

Its interestuing because as I understood it, Texas did not have a hate crimes law either (at least according to the NAACP), however the dragging death of James Byrd as we all know was described as that
Furthermore there was no "sexual orientation" hate crime law where Matt Shepard was killed, but his death, of which there was no evidence he was sought out for his homosexuality, was used as a rallying cry for hate crimes laws.

Regarding the "hate crimes" law in Kansas, I heard the DA use that law (lack of) as the reason this crime was not being prosecuted as a "hate crime".
The Judge yesterday called the witness BY NAME as she was leaving the stand. So far she has been referred to only as "HG". I didn't hear her being sworn in to testify so don't know if they used her name, but in any case, thanks to the Judge, I now know her full name as does everyone else who was listening. So much for keeping her name a secret.

It's
here on KS's thread about half way down
"The race issue continued to fester during jury selection last week, when both prosecutors and defense lawyers tried to exclude a black man, a Boeing employee, from the jury. The defense objected to his strong support for the death penalty, while the prosecution said he appeared sympathetic toward the Carrs because of their race. "'I hate to see young black men go through this,' the man said during jury selection.
"But Sedgwick County Judge Paul Clark refused to dismiss him, citing the U.S. Supreme Court precedent in Batson vs. Kentucky, which bars courts from striking black jurors on the assumption that they would favor black defendants."

Maybe somebody ought to run a commercial in which family members of the victims could say, "It was like they were killed all over again" because the DA wouldn't call it a hate crime.

After reading this agains, another thought occurred to me here on this.
I'm sure everybody remembers that Shepard was a ralllying cry for need of a "bias" crimes legislation in his state. And Byrd was used for a rallying cry for the supposed need for hate crimes laws in Texas.
But notice two black guys commit a hate crime in a state with no hate crime laws.
Where are the rallying cries for the NEED for hate crime laws in Kansas? Hmm none at all.
Nope, instead of a rallying cry, they're trying to bury this one like a cat in a sandbox.
So I ask, what could possibly illustrate the utter racist hypocrisy of liberals when it comes to hate crime laws?

I hope there won't be "I'm not gonna send another brother to jail" syndrome.

Thanks for the info regarding the black juror's statement. It's interesting that it was made during jury selection with both defense and prosecution objecting to his selection and being over-ruled by the judge. Defense because of his support of the death penalty and prosecution because he might be partial because the defendants were black. I'm beginning to wonder about this judge.
Maybe someone could explain to me if a "hate crime" strictly means crimes committed because of racial hatred. If that IS the case, possible this trial is not a hate crime because these guys were punks (IMO) in town from Dodge City that picked their victims and committed these horrible crimes. I'm not sure race had anything to do with it. I do believe race and being politically correct is why it is not receiving nation wide attention. (I have been wrong before and may be wrong this time.)

Jury selection took a grueling 18 days. What the hell is going on with our country where it takes 18 days to find a jury?
Are there that many idiots?
Or is it simply that those with brains and morals feel a slavish impulse to "disqualify" themselves from a jury by identifying themselves as intelligent and decent people (by how they answer the questions during jury selection)?

Talking to myself and answering my own question, I remember the Shepard case and his sexual preferences as a "hate crime" qualifier.
To: republicman
I have relatives in Wichita. No one there thinks that the black jurors will do any less than render a just verdict. The crime spree, even if it did not cross any racial bar, is so absolutely unbelievably gross, demonic, disgusting, horrific and devastating, that there can be no question of the verdict.
And there is a living witness, who is testifying.
Again, I don't think there will be a problem with the black jurors.

--I'm beginning to wonder about this judge.--
Me too.
--Maybe someone could explain to me if a "hate crime" strictly means crimes committed because of racial hatred.--
It also means that victims were "selected on the basis of race" of course it probably varies from state to state.
I find it curious that these guys, being black, probably living in a mostly black neighborhood, would only find whites to kill. But then its hard to know since the DA, as I understand it, sealed certain records.
BTW re: shepard there was no evidence that he was selected because of his sexual preference other than that the guys who robbed and pistol whipped him used the promise of a sexual liason to lure him to where he was killed.
Comparing the two there is no more evidence of "hate" being the motivator in Shepard than race being the motivator in this one.

I hope you're right. We'll see.

I don't know about the jurors, but the 2 brothers are blaming each other of the heinous acts.
It is concievable that one of them might walk or at least get a reduced sentence.
