A U.S. attack on Iraq would trigger a wave of anti-American anger in the Arab world

Which would vanish in a flash once they see the tides of victory.

If they can choke them off, are they really democratic?

You know, I look at what happened in NJ last week and I'm asking the same question.

Arabs have been in a rage for a thousand years; so what else is new, and why should we care?

True words, and well expressed.

Sadly, "we" have cared since the demise of the Ottoman Empire after WWI, and look at where it's gotten us.

The European nations come closer to you're "don't care" attitude of late. But then perhaps they have more to lose.

Precisely. The only language the "Arab street" is even remotely capable of comprehending is the language of strength and force, and that's exactly what they're going to get. They'll never like us, so it's best that the fear us.

Funny how muslims asked themselves that same question when they attacked us.

I don't follow what you mean? What question did I ask? I posted a picture and made a statement. Please explain.

Here's some crap wisdom from Arthur Schlesinger Jr. He wrote this a year ago, before we entered Afghanistan. What this proves is that these guys will say this stuff every time. They're often wrong, but never in doubt.

Bombing is not likely to eliminate bin Laden and his crowd, who have well-prepared hide-outs. It only would demonstrate once again the impotence of the American superpower. Civilian casualties would confirm bin Laden's thesis of evil America, push even moderate Muslims toward hatred of the United States, produce a new generation of suicidal bombers for al-Qaeda, bin Laden's terrorist network, and incite radical Muslims to rise against moderate regimes.

The only thing that would probably please bin Laden more would be an invasion by American ground forces. Afghanistan is famous for its unconquerability. The British Empire and the Soviet Union failed in their efforts to dominate the country, and they at least knew the rocky terrain and had people who spoke the languages. American troops in Afghanistan would be even more baffled and beset than they were one-third of a century ago in Vietnam.

There is, in addition, the land mine problem. According to Robert Fisk, the Middle Eastern correspondent of the Independent (London), Afghanistan contains one-tenth -- more than 10 million -- of the world's unexploded land mines, laid by the Red Army in 27 of the 29 provinces. Two dozen Afghans are blown up every day.

Moreover, by November freezing weather will arrive, and the Pentagon has no hope of dispatching troops and winning the war in the six weeks remaining before winter comes to Afghanistan. Nor could an invading American army count on serious assistance from the internal anti-Taliban resistance, their most effective leader, Ahmed Shah Masood, having been assassinated shortly before the assault on America.

Bin Laden, if he is the man, has set a trap for the United States. Indications are that, despite the cries for vengeance, we will not walk into it. It is hard to think of a drastic action taken at once that would not rebound against us. The quest for a knockout blow is an illusion. We still do not even know that bin Laden is the man. The publicly available evidence is persuasive. But it is thus far circumstantial, hardly solid enough to stand up in a court of law.

These are the atrocities which Zogby and his Arab terrorists want America to suffer.

Diogenes, do you have these (and more) on a website somewhere? That last set (ugh) would be perfect for signs/posters for freeps... Americans have largely forgotten the atrocities (those that are old enough to remember them), and some in-your-face reminders like these would be worth publicizing. For a certainty the *press* isn't going to do it!

OMG no we can't let the Arabs become enraged, how dare we. After Pearl Harbor, should we have worried about the Jap's rage? Everyone can attack the USA and toppel 2 large buildings, we don't care, we won't do anything but worry about your rage.< / sarcasm >

Please!

Enough with is Arab street crap.

Where is this street?

Is this the same street where goat carcasses hang upside down...?

Where women in Colman tents haggle over the price of rotton fruit...?

Is this the street where stinking, lazy men with bad facial hair, take puffs off a bong that looks like an octopus?

Or perhaps this is the street where half-naked, half starved children run around fighting the stray dogs for scraps of food.

Is it the street where Mothers let their children throw rocks at tanks and let them strap C-4 to their bellies?

Maybe its the street where they burn American flags while wearing nike and Levis...?

The Street where they kill their daughters if they hold a boys hand in public?

The street where fathers kidnap their American children and make them live in chains?

THE SOONER THIS STREET IS CLEANSED OF ITS FILTH THE BETTER OF THE WORLD WILL BE!

Rant off.

"...Works for me. Next time there's a big terrorist incident in the US, how about we drop a daisy cutter on any Arab celebration of it?..."

Sounds good!

And do it before those cows they call women start that ululating shit they do when they're hot to trot.

Actually, Arabs were in a rage from roughly 1000 AD when the Turks first started stirring around in the region until about 1920 when the Turks finally pulled out of everything but Anatolia.

For the last 80 years or so Arab independence from Turkish domination and tyranny has been guaranteed by the West.

Responsible Arabs know what awaits them should they ever succeed in chasing the West away!

It won't be pretty.

Your statement reflects thinking things through and the consequences of actions (ie intelligence and foresight). I don't think these islamics do that. It's kinda like bin Laden plotting a terrorist attack on the US, standing up and taking credit for it and having no plan to deal with the butt whoopin' that was coming to him. If he would've thought things through a little, he would've done a little bit more than hide in a cave, don't you think?

It could very well trigger a wave of "...Arab rage." But not the sort imagined here.

Democratization of Iraq just MIGHT bring the CITIZENS of Iran and Saudi Arabia into the streets demanding that level of liberty in THEIR nations.

And THAT has the Saudi royal family scared s**tless!

Which is PROBABLY why we didn't go all the way in Desert Storm. The Saudis called us off. And Bush One let them.

There is something to be learned from Arab culture; the real shame is that we cannot visit Baghdad and see the marvels of the late and great Persian Empire. We forget that Arabic numerals form the basis of our math and that around 900 A.D. or so a great flowering of science, medicine and culture flourished in the region. That said, we ought to bring down a really big hammer on those extremists in the Islamo-Arab world and their supporters who messed with the US. If we show fear and/or reluctance to kick their a**es, they will only become emboldened to hit us again. Bush is right about that point.

God knows Arabs are such kind, mellow and reasonable people.

Islam is not a ridiculous psychotic death cult, but a peaceful religion.

The guttural primitive language spoken by the Arabs, the wholesale despotism, and lack of any major contribution to mankind for the last 500 years must be overlooked because they have used their recently aquired oil wealth in such a humanitarian fashion.

Yes, the Arabs are shining examples of how great wealth can be spread among the many to the benefit of all, and we wouldn't want to anger such a fantastic people by attcking the benevolent humanitarian Saddam Hussein.
