IF I lived with in 2ooo ft of a PARK I would boogie...

First shot fired at a store...named Michaels (arch angel???) shot most likely fired from the "symbolic" cemetery  (GATE OF HEAVEN) that has a CROSS in the center of it. RED circle represents 900 ft diamter - see scale in the upper right hand corner in all little maps.

WEDNESDAY first of two shootings

Second shot FIRST victim - safety of a park again?

WEDNESDAY second of two shootings

Third shot - 2nd victim - the "comfort of a park???

THURSDAY FIRST shooting

Fourth shot - 3rd victim - BACK at the first scene...is it symbolic? "Gate of Heaven"??? Felt safe there? Wanted to practice LONG range shots???

THURSDAY second shooting

Fifth shot - 4th victim - hmmmm 2 parks to pick from....3

THURSDAY third shooting

Sixth shot - 5th victim- Parks near by but suspect shots were fired from the railway tracks...possible walked from one of the parks. Suspect probably has a knapsack and field strips the gun to conceal it ???

THURSDAY fourth shooting (another PERP that doesn't need to use a park???)

Seventh shot - sixth victim- walking near a ....PARK!

THURSDAY fifth shooting

Friday - one assualt victim - out of state...seems to break pattern...BUT the target has shot victim at a Michaels store...wonder about the surroundings...wonder if area is surrounded by trees to allow "cover", I suspect entrance to the area was alond the stream/river from I-95 heading WNW towards the red star.  (another PERP that doesn't need to use a park???)

MONDAY - one assualt victim - BACK to the "park" pattern.

Thanks for the maps. The school shooting is also right by Freeway Airport, where 9/11 hijacker Hani Hanjour tried to rent a plane (so we know that the area has been frequented by al-Qaeda). See post #29 above.

Great stuff. Only comment I would have is that it would be even better with a 300 yard circle centered on the location of the victim. The effect would be the same, but you don't have to have overlapping circles on all possible firing locations.

It seems the shooting in Fredericksburg was near a PET CEMETARY.

I think you are correct in your park theory, the shooter would need good cover so as not to be seen and to muffle the sound of the shot. Good work!

very interesting, anti. I think the "park" theory has something to it.

In the DC shooting, the park in question (unless they've added tons of lights in the last few years) gets rather dark at night. It's a classic urban park; it butts up to the intersection of Kalmia/Georgia/Eastern/Alaska avenues with lots of large trees within. Georgia Avenue (US 29) is very well travelled at all hours of the day or night in that stretch; it is about a mile and a half north of Walter Reed Army Medical, and about a mile or so south of the Silver Spring Metro station.

I haven't been there in several years, so I'm not sure of all the businesses there these days, but if memory serves, the park is on the northeast corner of the intesection; there was a Roy Rogers (IIRC, those are now all Hardees') on the southeast corner, a small gas station adjacent to a liquor store and a KFC on the southwest corner, and small shops on the northwest corner. (I lived a few blocks up Eastern Ave. from that intersection).

In any event, a quick getaway would work; the Beltway is about three miles north; going through downtown Silver Spring, where one could continue up Georgia Ave., northeastward on Colesville Rd, or either east or west on MD 410 (E-W Highway).

Your maps are very interesting. Is this area flat, or does topography further narrow the possibilities?

No park on that map, but did you notice the name of the road in the middle of the circles? "Central Park Blvd." Not sure what to make of the name, but it is interesting.

A few problems with your circles.

First, shot at Michael's Store, Michael's is in a strip mall and the only windows face toward Aspen Hill Road (Below the star in your map)

Second, the Saddle Brook Park in the second map is located behind the shopping center complex. The victim was out front in a large parking area.

Third, I don't know the layout.

Fourth, too many buildings to block site of 95% of your circles. The way the gas pump islands are situated (perpendicular to Rt.185) and the victim was in the process of pumping gas, he was hit in the chest ruling out a side shot because the pumps are too high and the other direction is obstructed from long range view, the shot would have come from the Giant Food grocery store parking lot directly across from Rt.185 (Connecticut Avenue) in the extreme lower portion of the circle.

Fifth, the victim was sitting on a bench in front of a store that faces out into a parking lot. The parking lot's grade rises as it gets to Georgia Avenue where it levels off. The green across the roadway is a residential neighborhood.

Sixth, the shot is believed to have come from across the street in the Safeway grocery store parking lot. That is one of the locations that a "white truck" was seen leaving the area.

As for the others the timetable suggests that getting around on foot is a possibility and I can't tell you what the lay of the land is but the Wednesday-Thursday shootings would have to have been mobile. Time would not allow for any walking and the only logical shooter locations are in the surrounding parking lots.

Great maps. The Washington Post reported this AM that police dogs alerted to gunpowder residue in the area of a decorative wall outside of a church, across from the intersection where the victim was killed in DC (last shooting on Thursday). The article went on to say that police were dismantling the wall, looking for evidence. Fox also reported the same info (quoting the Post) this AM. I went back to find the article this afternoon, but references to this info seem to have been removed.

Interesting analysis...and they're ALL within easy access to major thoroughfares.

They've all been well thought out.
