New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd was on the hot seat Monday morning for a paragraph buried deep in her Sunday column where she seemed to blame "influential Jewish conservatives" for persuading President Bush to go to war in Iraq.
"Influential Jewish conservatives inside and outside the administration have been fierce in supporting a war on Saddam, thinking it could help Israel by scrambling the Middle East map and encouraging democracy," contended the Irish Catholic liberal.
Dowd's suggestion that Jews in the Bush administration were putting Israel's interests over the U.S.'s raised eyebrows on the "Imus in the Morning" program.
Asked about the Times columnist's "influential Jewish conservatives" reference, Newsweek's Howard Fineman, a Dowd soulmate, insisted, "Maureen Dowd doesn't have an anti-Semitic bone in her body."
But moments later, when NBC Pentagon reporter Jim Miklaszewski was asked to explain what he thought Dowd meant by the remark, he said she was talking about a "what many would call a cabal within the administration."
IMUS: Who are these Jews 'Mo' Dowd's referring to as influencing Bush on the war? Wolfowitz? Richard Perle? Who?
MIKLASZEWSKI: Well, certainly there's that - what many would call a cabal within the administration - of not only those who are very much in favor of going into Iraq and removing Saddam Hussein a la an invasion - and one of the strongest voices within the administration, of course, is Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz. (End of Excerpt)
In the next breath, however, Miklaszewski suggested that it was wrong to single out Bush administration Jews for supporting that war, reminding Imus, "But, you know, Secretary Rumsfeld is clearly part of that crowd too, as is Vice President Dick Cheney."
But I thought it were the Jewish liberals in media trying to influence blah blah blah.
Is that Miklaszewski talking or Eric Cartman?
Wow - if we're down to discussing Jewish cabals pulling puppet strings on the Bush administation, we've really entered the Twilight Zone. Between Mo and Jim McDermott the Dems are atarting to look like refugees from the rubber room...
Could it be possible that there are those (religion aside) who are trying to save America, and then there are those who only care about their liberal agenda more than the country?
Of course!
But the fact is, if you keep scratching the liberal, you end up with this.....
Please understand that it is but a short leap from firearms confiscation to fascism. The more you peel away the Left, the more you approach its anti-Semitic, fascistic core.
Only now is the anti-Semitism that was rampant in Stalin's Russia being rediscovered amongst European and American leftists. You will notice that there is an Israeli divestment movement on several American campuses. Again, leftwingers protest that these divestment movements are anti-Sharon, or anti-Israeli, or anti-Zionist. The fact is, however, no one is demanding divestment from Zimbabwe or some of the more barbaric Arab states. What's particular about Israelis? They're Jewish, they're obnoxious (to the left), and they're allies of America. And they all have guns.
It's not so difficult to understand. More and more Jews are understanding who is ready to stand with Israel and the Jews, as a fellow democracy and as a people who have been persecuted throughout history.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
The last times the word "cabal" were used to describe Jewish people was the "Doctors' plot" hallucinated by a dying paranoid Stalin, as well as the ever popular fraud Protocols of the Elders of Zion.
I guess when the Democratic National Committee is not running vile anti-Catholic propaganda and slanderous cartoons of Bush murdering an elderly woman on its evil website, it can now organize an American pogrom.
How can Jewish Americans continue to support these neo-Nazis in drag?
...but she likely has in the past...
Many of Dowd's fellow Liberals are also pushing strongly for an attack on Iraq.
September 26, 2002more...Berman Seeks Quick Action
By Ethan WallisonWith a firm nod from Minority Leader Richard Gephardt (D-Mo.), a group of Iraq hawks led by Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.) has broken away from intraparty discussions over compromise language for a war resolution and is working directly with the White House to "make the case" for immediate action against Saddam Hussein.
Participants in a meeting of the Berman group Wednesday said tentative plans have been set for Democratic hawks to appear with President Bush at the White House today in a statement of solidarity on Iraq.
The move amounts to a split in what might be called the "pro-war" coalition inside the House Democratic Caucus - a group that comprises the broad majority of Democrats. This group generally believes the president should have authority to take military action against Iraq, but a fault line has developed along the question of whether Congress should set conditions - such as a need for "multi-lateral" support - for that authority.
...and it turned out Hillary has a Jew in her family tree...funny how that works.
LOL!
Almost seems contradictory, at first glance, doesn't it?
Until you consider that Lieberman is to the Jewish people what pig's piss is to champagne.
