"To keep everyone happy, I've been trying to call it Islamic extremist terrorism. Shall we nickname it IET?"

LOL...I try to call it "Islamofascist terrorism" or just "Islamofascism". Grampa Dave calls them "Islamakazis"...maybe we really do need to settle on a standardized name for the murdering b@stards.

Do you really think that M193 Ball is being used? An FMJ that frags this easily is not what I had in mind. I really think that some of ya'll need to think outside the military stuff.

Granted I do have stocks of NATO stuff, it is AP and that is its intent. My soft varmit targets get the SP and Ballistic Tips. Neither of these will exit a should hit on a coyote.

At the other scale, I and my 'Bama buddy practice 400 yd stuff with our 44 Anacondas and Redhawks. Yes, energy is down at that distance, but alot is still left with 215 & 240 CSWC and 296. Steel pigs at Devil's Mountain fly well when hit clean.

As though a sniper can only have one gun, or that an al quaeda cell can employ only one sniper... Ah, so true, in the Berkowitz cases it turned out there was more than one Bulldog 44 gun, authorities just couldn't get it that the perps would buy more than 1 of the same model

Frankly, if it is terrorism, it isn't very effective

Thanks for your comments. For us on the left coast, no it would not seem threatening. However, for those in the local area, I would say it has been effective. Peach..I will check out that book. We are at war folks! But, then I am preaching to the choir here. I think we all know we are at war.

To change the topic for a minute, what do you make of the Japanese and their society? What lies under the Western trappings? In other words, do they have a spirituality or are they fatalists and materialists?

The weapon didn't change...they switched shooters.

And just because a weapon DOES change, it doesn't mean a thing in this scenario.

I'm still not discounting the fisherman that was shot either as I assume he was in an obscure area (and they might have come upon him). This is a no witness operation.

Excellent point, I would never have thought of that scenerio. If true, your premise certainly dispels the serial killer or nutcase theories.

And no killings on the weekend. What's that all about?

Evading detection in a suburban setting involves, in my opinion, strategy and planning. As in: only strike when there are a lot of people moving around.

The movement provides cover for the shooter to become active and then get away in the seconds after activation.

My belief is that most people, when looking for someone like a shooter, will tend to use pattern recognition rules in a negative manner. That is, anything that breaks the pattern will generate suspicion, especially in an alarm situation such as just after a shot is heard. By pattern recognition I mean informally the kind of stuff the brain and eye use to figure out numbers in charts used to detect color blindness.

Patterns include sex, gender, dress, vehicle type and color, speed, and so on.

Patterns of normal weekend activity differ significantly in my opinion from patterns of weekday workday activity. The weekend patterns in my opinion make it somewhat more difficult to blend in than the weekday patterns. Also the densities may be different-- on the weekends it can vary significantly, usually lower except near a public event such as a concert or sports game. Also, people are able to devote more attention on weekends to being careful than they are on their way to work during a normal commute day.

If the shooter(s) do not want to get caught it will be difficult to catch them since suburban and urban settings provide almost ideal getaways for a sniper-- highways and cars. The authorities in my opinion are not utilizing the public to the maximum for detection. More profiling information should be given. People could then let it become part of their pattern recognition violation consciousness. The authorities need all the help they can get to catch these shooters and instead the media have been let loose to warn people to be on the lookout for gun enthusiasts who happen to have AR-15s or subscribe to Guns and Ammo. That probably won't result in catching the shooters because if nothing else they have already demonstrated they are competent in blending into the existing population.

Also I don't think the shooters have regular workday jobs and live in the area. Anyone having normal workday jobs and living in the area will come naturally under suspicion from his/her neighbors, work colleagues, etc due to their lack of alibi for the time periods in which the shootings occurred. A local who made known his/her interest in guns (religious sect, etc.) would fall under correspondingly more suspicion.

I agree with the easy shot, but, I bet a large number of freepers could figure out how to set up a shot and execute a pre-planned escape route. Anyone that watches tv could think of that. I would think that a single, or 02ea nutcases would stay around their local territory, where he knows the traffic patterns, vice a foreign terrorist cell, which, to me would conduct these operations simultaneously, in different locales.

Okay. Bowie does have a lot of older neighborhoods where the people are "average-middle class", but it won't be that way for very long. All new houses built start at about 350k and go to about 600k for no land. The new condos start at 150k.

Bowie is also gobbling up all the older districts around it. "Bowie" is almost a catch-all term for Old Bowie, Huntington, Collington, Mitchellville, and half of Glen Dale.

I really don't want anything, it's just that, very rarely are snipers apprehended. There just isn't that much work for them in civilian life.

Maybe they want to see how this pans out and if they continue to get away with it, will try it elsewhere. This could even be a diversion to focus attention and resources on the suburbs while planning to hit the city

From the first doctor to see the child:
The bullet entered on the left side and lodged itself on the right side of the chest near the surface. The child was conscious and complaining that it hurt. There was a lot of blood lost. They thought there might be damage to his left lung and spleen. They praised the aunt for taking him to the medical center. The child is still in surgery.

I think they switched shooters. I haven't been followin this very closely, but I think I heard somewhere two shots went into this boy. If so increased the shooters risk, big time. More than one shot gives folks time to look for you, discover your position, pay attention, notice things, etc. CNN just said a long range rifle was used. How far away was the shooter? I'm goin back and read, see can I find it. At any rate, killin Dudes got some trainin from somewhere, even if it was from Pappa. Seems to me they got no revulsion at takin the shot.

Sorry, I must be missing something. I thought someone said a fisherman was shot.

Of interest to me because I fish alone in remote areas often.
