FBI: Maryland shootings fit no category Agency profilers can see no motive other than terrorism

WASHINGTON – It's not gang-banging. Or spree-shooting. Or armed robbery. And it's not a serial killer.

So what would motivate two assailants to randomly target five victims in a Maryland suburb, and possibly a sixth in D.C., killing each with a single shot from a high-powered rifle?

The calculated shootings, which took place Wednesday and Thursday, are like none that federal investigators have seen.

"If some sicko just wants to go out and essentially assassinate a bunch of random people – and he's not a terrorist – it's almost like a new category" of crime, said a veteran FBI agent.

The perpetrators aren't spree shooters, FBI profilers have concluded.

Typically, spree shooters are loners who snap one day and fire away until police appear and they come to their own violent end.

They typically seek revenge on an employer, such as the post office, or fellow students at a school. They come to the scene loaded with weapons, and take a stand, spraying victims with bullets.

But in this case, two men in a white van or "box truck" did not spray bullets, but picked targets, trained a rifle, or rifles, on their victims and aimed to kill, like trained assassins.

"In a spree shooting, there are usually a lot of people wounded," said one agent. "The shooter is not really taking time to aim."

"This is much more cold and calculated than the typical spree shooting," he said. "The victims were not wounded."

What's more, the sniper, or snipers, didn't take a stand, but sped off to avoid capture.

"This is different – they've taken great steps to avoid being apprehended," he added.

Authorities are said to have a description of the shooters but are not releasing it. They've reviewed video tapes from security cameras at some of the businesses where the shootings took place.

"The idea of terrorism is to spread fear," said one law enforcement officer. "If that's what they wanted to do, they've succeeded, because there's a lot of fear in the Washington area right now."

My Garand would have the range... and the stopping power, too!

You have to actually get something lethal INTO the shooter.

Bets bet's a Gustav.

I'll go against the tide and offer the opinion that these two probably are white. Montgomery County is one of those places where unless a black man is wearing a suit or a uniform he's noticed. My husband and I were at an estate sale in Potomac last week-end and several people looked at us like we came from Mars.

These killings remind me of something that happened in California several years ago. A middle aged man suddenly picked up his gun and started stalking hikers. He killed men, women, old and young before the police finally caught him.

>>>My guess : The authorities are not releasing the race because the two men are of "middle eastern" appearance<<<

Your entire post is right on. They've fed us lies for so long, they're not sure if we can handle the truth. Ba$tards.

So far, Islamic terrorists have not shown any high degree of skill in anything, except secrecy, subterfuge, deception, theft, fraud, cold-blooded murder and a willingness to die for the demonic Allah. I definitely don't rule these shootings out as terrorism, but given that this perp is skilled in marksmanship, how many other Islamists with similar skills would you expect to find in other areas of the country?

Actually, the recent FBI report on 9/11 concluded that the attack was brought off with amazing skill and percision. If you consider the fact that they actually were able to get training for several terrorists on how to fly 747s, it seems feasible, to say the least, that they could train marksmen. As far as coordination and communication, I think 9/11 proved they are capable of that as well.

He/she probably meant Elkridge but even that area has changed. Although, thank God, Daniel's is still there.

Just to clarify, I meant that someone who is not the target might spot the truck and perps while they are casing someone else. In that case, there may be opportunity to intervene.

Great. You haul out the shootin' iron...and the flank security whacks you.

These guys have been very smart so far. Don't expect them to be conveniently stupid.

We do have someone that so far has been very accurate in what they are attempting to do, and so we probably have a skilled shooter

With old Sherlock Moose on their trail I don't know why they don't just surrender now.

I don't expect anything of the sort. My point is that if I found myself in the situation described, I would rather be armed rather than unarmed.

You know what catches my atention? The term "skilled shooter". Where do they get that? I suppose if the shots are from several hundred yards away this term could be used accurately. But, and maybe I've just missed it, I haven't heard of anyone saying how long the shots were. If from 50 or 75 yards, it would hardly take a "skilled shooter" to inflict one shot kills with any moderate or better quality rifle. And why no interviews with the people who heard the shots? Except for rimfires, even a light caliber (they're claiming high power) rifle is going to make quite a boom unless it's suppressed or fired from very long range. I have been quite occupied and maybe I've just missed these reports, or is there some information missing?

On a live target, it takes one heck of a shooter to even open fire (85% of grunts never shoot in firefights), much less kill 5 people with 5 shots.

Never fired a Gustav... I HAVE used the Garand and I did spend a LOT of time on the range at various bases... so I suspect I could get a round or 2 into the shooter if needs be!

I guess it's a test drive and they will stop. Let the media and the Damned(o-crats)villify and blame a couple crazy whities and the "gun culture."
After the elections, when the "right"(american hating anti-second amendment scum) people have gotten in. They go to work.

If you were a terrorist, do you want Dashole, or Bush for an opponent?

Between the election and christmas, a few dozen dedicated teams hunting through suburban malls will extinguish the consumer-driven American economy.

The double-dip recession will turn to cold, dark hell. And then, if I were they, I'd get serious.

That's also my answer to the "If they have nukes, why don't they use them?" crowd. Our enemies have hated us a long time. Long before we even knew who they were. They want to roast us slowly on the spit, not just cut our throats.

Is there some information missing? How about most of it! Sketches and descriptions of the suspects . . . interviews with family members of the victims . . . news about the ongoing manhunt . . . warnings to people about being alert . . . it's like they don't want us to know anything whatsoever . . . and why is that?

The Carl Gustav is a recoilless rifle, roughly equal to the old M72 LAAW rocket in terms of OOMPH.

As for getting a round or two into the shooter...you're shooting at a guy inside a metal box. Rotsa ruck.

Skilled shooter? One shot one kill.(or at least hit)

Average "drive by" is a couple dozen shots minmum with very few hits. Inner city gangbanga's don't have a practice range and can't shoot.
