Looks like we are going to have a little COMPETITION on Monday, from la.indymedia.org - calendar:

The National Campaign for Jobs and Income Support
http://www.nationalcampaign.org

For immediate release:
October 3, 2002

WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF US?
Grassroots Activists To Hold Davis & Simon Accountable On
Economic Issues at Candidate's Forum

LOS ANGELES, CA –- Women on welfare and their children, low wage workers, and supporters of the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Campaign for Jobs and Income Support will rally outside the gubernatorial candidate's forum hosted by the LA Times at 11:30 AM on Monday, October 7, 2002. They will arrive with picket signs, banners, and costumes for guerrilla theater demanding that Governor Gray Davis and Republican candidate Bill Simon answer the following question: What About the Rest of Us?

The Governor recently vetoed legislation that would have helped families climb out of poverty. His vetoes included bills that would have expanded the Healthy Families Program to cover low-income working parents and increased access to education and training for parents on welfare. His recent budget cuts also disproportionately affected low-income families.

Republican candidate for Governor, Bill Simon, has made campaign promises that include deregulation of business and privatization of our public utilities. But, what about the rest of us?

This protest is the first of many What About The Rest Of Us? events planned for campaign stops around the state and country in the coming weeks. Activists will seek to hold the Bush Administration and others accountable for their failure to address the economic insecurity of millions of Americans – while turning a blind eye to corporate corruption. At each of these events, activists will burnish their orange and blue logo and will be accompanied by a human question mark.

WHAT: What About the Rest of Us? Rally during gubernatorial candidate's forum

WHERE: Los Angeles Times
202 West First Street

WHEN: 11:30 AM, Monday, October 7, 2002

WHO: The National Campaign for Jobs and Income Support—LA Chapter, ACORN, LA Coalition to End Hunger & Homelessness, Parents Organized for Westside Renewal (POWER), Children's Defense Fund—CA, Mobilization for the Human Family, Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of LA (CHIRLA), Human Services Alliance

VISUALS: Fathers, Mothers and children will arrive with banners and costumes for guerrilla theater. Characters will be dressed as Governor Gray Davis, Republican candidate Bill Simon and a Human Question Mark, asking What About the Rest of Us?

The National Campaign for Jobs and Income Support (www.nationalcampaign.org) is a coalition of more than 1,000 grassroots organizations in 42 states, and over 25 organizations in Los Angeles, seeking to advance a progressive anti-poverty agenda at the local, state and national levels.

Too bad we missed it; it might have gotten us some great video.

But I think you're right to concentrate on Davis now.

I just got through to MATT DRUDGE - on his NATIONAL show! - with a plug for this FReep!!!
It wasn't more than a few seconds, and Matt didn't sound real excited about it, but we got NATIONAL MEDIA attention!!!

Seriously, imagine this picture posted on Drudge:

A giant DUMP TRUCK with the words "DUMP DAVIS!" painted on the side,
carrying a Bill Simon look-alike dressed up like Superman (carrying a sign that says "The S is for SIMON!")
and
a Gray Davis look-alike dressed up like a prostitute (carrying a sign that says "Will work for BRIBES!)
I don't know...
...sounds like a picture that might get a few hits - to me!

bump for you Freepers and a Simon win. It's a shame that the media is not exposing Davis' deceit by not debating Simon in prime-time.

Well, when Simon wins, I may finally be able to get a job, and I won't be available for weekday FReeps either. :)

I figure I'll be there about 10:30 or so. I can come earlier if need be.
EXCELLENT!
My plan is to pick up the NEW "DUMP DAVIS!" sign at 9:30 am, and the "dump truck" at 10 am, so that I can be at the L.A. Times building by 10:30 am - to check in with the LAPD (Central station) and the City Hall police (General Services).
The new sign is six feet long and two feet high, BRIGHT florescent yellow, with BIG black letters that say "DUMP DAVIS!" - and smaller black letters that say "www.FreeRepublic.com"

The "dump truck" is actually a rental from Home Depot, and but it LOOKS like a dump truck, a little! ;o)

We may need YOU to cruise around the block in it, stopping for photo ops whenever possible - and parking in front of us - along the "red" zone, if I can negotiate that with the folks from City Hall.
