I do expect GOP to scream loud and often, but so far, nothing. They should have been ready for this with prepared text. The GOP doesn't fight loud or hard enough. This seems like such momentous news that I can't believe the networks are even discussing anything else.

is mcbride worse than L-berg?

When you get a chance, here are some Bill McBridisms from the debate last Friday. What a loser!

Please pardon this minor deviation from the thread topic...

NJ gives new meaning to 'criminal Justice system'. . .

Good point...we knew that the justices were criminals but it's now verified.

It is absolutely heart breaking and infuriating at the same time. We must win this. I fell like this country is going to Hell and my young kids will not even have a chance.

Where in the law, where in the Constitution, does it say we have to have a two-party system? And where does it say that one of those parties has to be the Democrat Party?

Does this mean that Walter Mondale should have dropped out in October and let someone else take his place? What's the difference between losing and losing big? Is it now the law that if you are losing big it is not in the interest of voters?

THe GOP needs to start playing the reasons Latenburg gave when he quit. The best campaign will be to use his own wors against him.

I'm starting to feel very unprotected and don't know what we'll do if SCOTUS won't touch it or votes differently this time.

This is a sad day in America. The cancer of "activist" judges has spread far and wide. In the short term, I hope this absolutely has the Republican base frothing at the mouth in other states. In the long term, I hope this can be stopped before the liberals/judges/media destroy America.

When you start fooling with elections with judicial permission, I fear the end is near for free elections. It's all over in New Jersey unless the voters there tell their dictators what to do with their illegal substitue candidate, Sen. Senile Hindenburg.

>>There is one saving grace here. Lautenburg is old as the hills (I'm not picking on the elderly, but this man looks and talks like a verry old 78)<<

He will resign in January, and the Governor will appoint William Jefferson Clinton to the (now six-year) vacancy.

Put money on it.

the NJSC decision basically says that they're doing this to preserve the two-party system - so both parties have a candidate.

Both parties do have a candidate. Unfortunately one of them isn't man enough to take a loss.

Something that I do not understand is what obligation does the law, or the constitution, have to any one particular political party? Obviously if one party's candidates was intentionally denied access to the ballot, then that would be obstructing the people's right to choose in an election. But if one party follows the law and the process that the party chooses to nominate a candidate for office who later drops out isn't that just that party's tough luck?

Why does the state have to insure that a particular party even has anyone on the ballot? As many have posted, often a race has only one candidate who runs unopposed. In those cases, should the state name a candidate even if it's against that person's wishes, in the name of electoral "competitiveness"? It's nuts!

Does this mean that the only fair elections are those that end up 52-48, or 55-45? Are potential landslides now being outlawed?

I don't expect them to take the case, either and part of me hopes they don't. I think there is a good chance Lautenburg will not win the election. If he does, it's one seat. If the Dems and their useful idiots in the media can get Democrat voters all around the country to think the Republicans are try ing to 'steal' another election, then it could tip the scales in some of the very close races around the country.
