Don't kayaks tip easy? In whipped up water with heavy winds, would you be better off lashing one arm to it and hanging on, rather than strapped in and constantly struggling to right yourself?

It is a twisted fascination I have but I have chased some hurricanes in the past. I was thinking about doing this one 2 days ago. I literally have a love for the event. I will be up all night and tomorrow morning (day off)watching this unfold. We are about to see mother nature doing some serious juice.

That Unisys map makes it look like it's about to do a 90 to the east. Ain't a gonna happen. The HP center and ridge is too strong.

"Heck I would even be scared in Pensacola. That Unisys map makes it look like it's about to do a 90 to the east. Probably just the angle but I dunno." Quit it. I'm in between there and Pensacola.

Tornado Watch is up for portions of LA. until 2am CST.

To get the full effect, a hurricane needs to be at least Cat 3 and come from the ESE (moving WNW) where it can cause the lake to pour over the wall into the city (kind of like a bowl filling up with water). Still, even a direct shot from the south could be bad, but NO sits a bit "inland" from the due south.

Are you still sticking with the Pecan Island prediction, or is it going ashore east of there?
To: July 4th
Ok, but what was the 1-minute speed?

RE: Looks like it's getting drawn straight up. Look out New Orleans.
Yup. That's my best guess at this time. Worst case scenario is a hit on or a little west of the Big Uneasy.
Remember the northeast quadrant of a hurricane has the highest winds and storm surge. Unfortunate test of their levy and "storm wall" system may be underway soon.
I signed up on FreeRup today to comment on the storm. Was lurking the last couple of weeks. Took me awhile to figure out the shower and series thing.
Great group. Glad to be here. I'll watch my spelling though!

Seriously...if you hang it out...stay on here as long as possible. Hell I will freep mail you my cell...I gotta hear this one.

the storm is already west of New Orleans, still moving nw (nnw at times)....angles can be deceiving.

Are you still sticking with the Pecan Island prediction, Still looks good on a NEXRAD trace, though the last snap shows a northward wobble. Yes, Pecan Island.

Yup. That's my best guess at this time. Worst case scenario is a hit on or a little west of the Big Uneasy. Eye has already passed longitude of NOLA, and is heading NW. It is now directly south of Grand Isle.

"Hunker down there Blam!" Yup. I'll be all right. I just got all the limbs from Hanna and Isidore picked up today.

Welcome to what I will bet to become the longest running live thread ever on FR. Better take a shower...things are bound to get really series in the next 6-8 hrs.
