Jim McDermott and David Bonior have "MISLED" America about their Vietnam service.
Detroit Free Press, Congress Merge Online | xgman

Congressmen Jim McDermott and David Bonior have "MISLED" the American people about their Vietnam service.

During their Baghdad press conference, both McDermott and Bonior touted their Vietnam combat service, while calling President Bush a liar and praising Sadam Hussein's openness and cooperation.

Upon returning to the U.S., the two congressmen held a press conference and again highlighted their Vietnam combat service, as an obvious measure to boost their qualifications to remark on the horrors of war.

Following the news conference, McDermott appeared on MSNBC and once again clearly established at the onset of the interview that he had served in Vietnam.

And most recently, Major Garrett of Fox News reported that he had just talked with Bonoir and McDermott, and noted that both of them had "fought in the Vietnam War"

But easily available evidence indicates neither of them ever left the safety of the CONUS.

According to Congress Merge Online, McDermott's military experience is shown as:

Professional Experience (including Military):
Long Beach Naval Station, US Navy Medical Corps,1968-70
Private Practitioner, 1970-87

According to the Detroit Free Press (May 18, 2002), Bonoir's military experience is:
"...He enlisted in the Air Force after receiving his draft notice because enlisting meant he had more control over where he might be stationed; getting drafted most likely would mean being sent to Vietnam. He served in California in 1968-72 and earned his master's degree at the same time."

Why the press blindly buys off on what these two traitors say is incredible.

Just a couple of the standard journalism questions would show these two as the liars and traitors they really are:

When were you in Vietnam?

What campaign/service ribbons were you awarded?

Why are you lying about Vietnam combat service, when both of you spent your military time in the State of California ?

Just maybe someone from the press will see this and take the both of them to task.

You are wrong. There is a big difference between being a Viet Nam Era Vet and being a Viet Nam Vet. It is very misleading to leave out the word, Era.

I think they can technically be called Vietnam-era veterans, which is a far cry from a Vietnam vet.

Yes, big difference between serving during Vietnam and serving in Vietnam.

Or ...

You could have had a sense of pride for putting your life on the line for your country. I know it's not your fault that you did not go to Vietnam but don't consider yourself "lucky" that you did not see combat. I consider myself "lucky" that I did.

Sounds like McDermott and Bonior at least deserve honorable (?) mention in the next edition
of this book...at least for being "artful dodgers" with the truth...

I am very careful to always refer to my service as a Vietnam - Era veteran.

Likewise ... served in the USMC 1964-'67. Barely out of Marine boot camp when the Gulf of Tonkin incident occurred in August of '64 ... the following March the first Marines to arrive in Vietnam, as a large scale unit, made an amphibious landing at Da Nang. I, on the other hand, was making an amphibious landing (as part of a Battalion Landing Team attached to the 6th Fleet in the Med) on Corsica. When I got back from my 6 month deployment to the Med I had orders for WESTPAC (south east Asia) ... however, they were changed at the last moment and I was re-assigned to another unit ramping up for a Med deployment. After returning from that cruise I had less than a year left in service ... in other words to short for 'Nam.

If they were NOT awarded this Ribbon...they are NOT Vietnam Vets.
They would be Vietnam Era Vets

Please note - The California Campaign is NOT recognized.

We wonder why the "Honorable" Congressman never corrected this AP lie (and many others published) about his Vietnam service.

Associated Press (Originally published October 23, 2001)

WASHINGTON -- As a Navy psychiatrist during the Vietnam War, Rep. Jim McDermott determined whether young men were fit to fight. The job left him with a distaste for war and an appetite for politics

McDermott, 64, spent two years in Vietnam and saw a long line of soldiers who felt the government wasn't behind them. The experience shaped his life and his political philosophy.

After Vietnam, McDermott moved to Seattle in 1970 and almost immediately won a seat in the state Legislature. After 14 years and three unsuccessful bids for governor, he went to Zaire to practice psychiatry in 1987

Believe me, I am proud of my service time. ( 71 - 80 )
I served in the MP's and Corrections, and while I did not see combat in Vietnam, I saw plenty of combat.
I saw unarmed combat in correctional facilities, often outnumbered 4 to 1 ( inmates vs. staff, respectively. )
I was shot at, and on a few ocassions, returned fire.
Even worse was serving in the U.S. and being reviled and insulted by my fellow americans for wearing a U.S. Army uniform.

As to whether I'm "lucky" to have missed combat, age and perspective has tempered my outlook.
I was really gung ho to serve in Vietnam when I entered, but it never happened. Request denied.

Evidently, God had other plans for me, and I will simply go where assigned and do the job given me.

They are not Vietnam combat veterans, but they ARE card carrying members of the Democratic Socialists of America's Progressive Caucus, a group ofUNPATRIOTIC UNAMERICAN subversives that are actively engaged in overthrowing the capitalist system of government in the USA and transforming it into a socialist nation.

"Progressive" is a code word for socialist, note that Sanders of VT is an officer.

Why these people are allowed to get on national TV and not disclose or be asked by the press reagrding their membership in a socialist organization is beyond me.

On the hand, if your dad was a World War II vet, few ask if he
served in Normandy or in New Jersey.

He can't join the VFW or American Legion either.

Our local late afternoon talk show host brought up the subject of McDermott and Bonier's service. He was unclear on the subject, so I just called our local station (WRVA, Richmond, VA), to set them straight about these two jerks' service, and the call screener blew me off.

Go figure.

I hope they aren't that stupid as to make a claim as fought in
Vietnam when there are so many ways to check such

Remember Admiral Boarda(sp) killed him self(wink, wink)
supposedly because he wore a decoration he was not entitled to.

All the CNO staff flew into the combat region at least once a month
because any salary was tax exempt, if you served one day in the
combat zone. I was Navy and was in little danger, but wages
were tax free.

Everyone who served in the theater recieved
the Armed Forces Expeditionary ribbon, whether they saw combat or not.
