A day in the life of President Bush (photos): 10/1/02

Posted on 10/01/2002 6:20:03 PM PDT by rintense

President Bush met with congressional leaders today to asks that they pass the Terrorism Insurance Agreement by Friday. Bush stressed the need to pass the measure so that 300,000 people could get back to work on $15.5 billion worth of projects that are on hold because of no insurance. The President also made it crystal clear that although an Iraqi inspection agreement is a step in the right direction, the Biden/Lugar resolution is just not strong enough. Meanwhile, First Lady Laura Bush was in Florida today to help promote reading. This evening, she is attending a fund-raiser for her brother-in-law, Jeb. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

"And kicking prayer out of schools has led to a ridiculous and scandalous
distortion of freedom of religion [note that it is freedom of religion we are
guaranteed, not freedom from religion]."

Oh, absolutely, kayak. I'd forgotten the very important issue of prayer in the schools.

And here's another one: California is forbidding parents to homeschool. I doubt the constitution would uphold that one.

Thank you so much. We have been in a drought situation for a couple of years also but we're catching up this year. I'm just worried about all those people in the low lying areas near the expected landfall. Most of them are still bailing out from Isadore.

It is not my hope that Government to be involved in every little thing. In Health Care it's the Insurance companies who control it. The cost of Health Care has been driven up by the law suits. So the insurance companies have bneen forced to put all kinds of protections and formalities into the system to prevent these law suits. I loom at insurance companies much like a viscious circle. They collect insurance premiums from everybody while instituting all kinds of regulations to prevent them from the lawsuits we are paying them to protect us from.

The Government has very little defense from the insurance companies or the trial lawyers. In Short... It's a mess. If I was able to enact tort reform I would take up the Canadian legal system that states.... If an attorney files a lawsuit against someone, The Attorney must be prepared to pay the defense costs of the person or Company the Attorney has filed suit against if the Plaintiff loses the case.

This approach would stop 95% of the bogus lawsuits filed by opportunistic trial lawyers who have nothing to lose

"They have no morals, no ethics and no integrity."
Can we add a few more items to the list?
No honor and no honesty, no believability, [this could go on for a long time]. We look like a banana republic, as the earlier poster said. We write laws that mean nothing. We have judges who uphold nothing. We have congresspersons who do nothing. We have voters who care about nothing.

But, we have a few good men [and women]. I salute freepers.

I hear you.....My understanding is that companies got into INSURING their employees because the GOVERNMENT offered them something in return for it, then like the schools, all sorts of caveats got added, and yes, the lawyers got involved....that's where I'm coming from. In an ideal world we'd go back to the country Doctor, but the toothpaste is out of the tube now, and we can't, unless we can figure out how to convince employees they could take care of their own medical care on their own (their salaries would be higher and they would have more choices).....ah, but I dream, because, I'm supposed to be heading off to sleepy land....g'night.

I know what you have ahead of you. I'll pray for your safety. My son is an hour's drive from the coast. He doesn't get the worst of it, but the storms are still pretty bad where he is [tornadoes, thunderstorms, loss of electricity]. It isn't going to be pretty.

Take care.

. So I'm not sure why members would like to weaken the resolution.

What they are trying to weaken is the President, not the resolution. I am sure the President is well aware of that however. I am so disgusted with the Democrats. I didn't think I could possibly detest them more after the election of 2000, but gee, they managed to make that happen!

Yes, I vote repub in the primaries. I somehow think I'm getting the runaround too, but maybe I've just become terribly cynical, but who can blame me?

I'll try the election board, my congress rep would be no help, as it's Schakowsky, a really lefty. I don't think her office would be much help to me, not on this issue, or on anything along these lines.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it!

So right! President bush correctly saw that the public is sick and tired of the politics of personal destruction after 8 years of the Clintons doing nothing else. He knew that we wanted our leaders to be civil, state their positions, and then do what is best for the country as a whole, not just one party, or for themselves! Rats will never get it! Some Pubbies don't like the "new tone" either, but I do, and so does a great majority of the citizens.

Thank you so much for the prayers. I'm not in the projected line of landfall but if they're anywhere near accurate, I'll be on the east side of the winds and that is a bad place to be. That is where I was when Andrew hit and it was not fun, we had widns at about 90 mph and that is very destructive.

Thanks to all of you for your input. You have been a great help to me.

I didn't realize how hard it would be to actually come up with supporting details to back up my argument. I am not the best debater around, so thanks to all of you for your help!

Lots of us talk about how many rights we are losing as of late, but I think it's a good idea to get a list going and add to it at times, so we can have the facts handy when someone questions us about why we believe as we do.

Anybody who wants a list of those ideas expressed tonight, please FReep Mail me and I would be happy to send it to you.

Thanks again!
