Couldn't possiby be that the SBA is throwing money their way, could it?

You'd think that these entrepreneurs would be a natural GOP constituency, seeing the DemocRAT nanny-state regulations as an impediment to their businesses' growth. On the other hand, maybe they just want to jump onto the RATs' crony capitalism gravy train.

They are going to RESEARCH this to find out why?????
SHEESH.....like someone else said, because the government gives them MONEY TO START BUSINESSES......and not to WHITE guys!!!!!

With the vast majority of loans and set-asides for minority owned businesses, this is just incredible!

Small Business Association loans given to minorities and women!
Wish I had the same opportunities:)

African-American men and other minorities may be more likely to start their own business because they may face a tough time finding jobs compared with their white counterparts. Well, at least AP avoided interjecting implied racism until the last sentence.
Interesting they never bothered to examine the possiblility of preferential treatment in landing government start-up money. Nor was the likelihood of government set-asides mentioned. Is this just a typically slanted AP piece or rather an incomplete work by a boob?

In particular, it shows African-American men between the ages of 25 and 35 with graduate-school experience are the most likely to start a company in the United States today.Well I'll be! I fall squarely in the middle of this age range, and I've started my own business.
Interesting.

How many fail after 3 years? 5 years? What is the average revenue of such businesses vs. those owned by whites?
A guy who does lawnwork or owns his own truck is counted as one business, same as IBM.

Good for them.

Could it be that everyone except the white man is given substantial tax benefits and opportunities that don't exist in the world of the "racist" whitey? Hmmmmm. Sounds like reverse-discrimination to me.

"This really is the tip of the iceberg for us," said contributing author Larry Cox, director of programmatic research at the Kauffman Foundation. "The findings beg the question: 'Why?"'
Why not?? Why on earth would you bother studying someone doing a GOOD thing?

African-American men between the ages of 25 and 35 with graduate-school experienceHow many African American men actually get admitted to graduate school? The last time I checked, the figure was around 2% of the African American men that graduate with a 4 year degree. It's a small number in absolute terms. Couple that with the propensity to invite women and minorities to be the "offical owner" of a business to qualify for special treatment. The story inadequately defines exactly the "whites" and "blacks" who comprise the comparison groups.

If I was a minority, I would start my own business as well---because the government would throw money my way to help me start it. Not only that, once I get started, I am guaranteed lucrative contract because of some companies policies (like Shell) that only hire contractors from MWOs.(Minority/Women-Owned)
Alas, I'm just a evil white boy who needs to stay at his corporate job so he can pay taxes so that even more minorities can start their own businesses.

I don't get all the bitching in here - I say way to go, black guys, welcome to the economy. Assuming the majority got there with the help of the government or are somehow involved in illegal activities is condescending and I haven't seen any evidence to support that. Hopefully this reflects an strong element of responsibility and self-reliance that will benefit all of us.
